Major A. A. Stephens
The Last Roll Call
Is Answered by Many the Past Week
Those High and Low Alike Meet the Last Enemy and Pay the Debt Which Must Come to All
Major A. A. Stephens, well known in Confederate circles throughout Hunt County, died at the home of his sons in Celeste last Saturday. Mr. Stephens had gone from his home in Wolfe City to visit his sons, Charlie Stephens and Neuborn Stephens at Celeste, was taken seriously ill, and was never able to return home.
Deceased came to Texas from Itawamba County, Mississippi, in 1880 and settled near Wolfe City where he has lived and prospered for the past twenty-seven years. He was prominent in the councils of the Baptist Church, the Confederate Camp, and local politics.
Wolfe City has sustained the loss of one of her best citizens in his taking away. In addition to his two sons at Celeste, he leaves a widow and a daughter, Mrs. Griffis, of Wolfe City to mourn his loss.
