Mary McWhirter Rust

Mary Rust, 79, of Greenville passed away October 31, 2006, at a local hospital. Visitation is from 6:30 to 8:30, November 2, 2006, at Peters Funeral Home. Funeral services are at 10:00 AM, Friday, November 3, at Peters Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Paul Gould officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Park Cemetery.

She was born May 11, 1927, daughter of “Bill” S. McWhirter and JuJu (Horn) McWhirter in Commerce. On October 13, 1948, she married Billy Earl Rust in Commerce.

She was an elementary teacher at Houston school for seventeen years and a Hunt County supervisor until the early 1990's. She was a member of the Red Hat Society, AAUW, Altrusa, Delta Kappa Gamma, and Retired Teacher Association. She was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her daughter, J. Randi Hogland of Greenville; a son, Rusty Rust of Houston; a grandson, Britt Hogland of Roanoake; sister Billie Taggart and husband James Taggart of Greenville; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband in March of 1989 and her parents.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
