ALLEN — R. Jay Lovell was born in Newton, Kan., on Aug. 20, 1952, to Letha and Cloral Lovell and died Aug. 3, 2006. The family moved to Texas in 1954 and lived in Greenville until 1966 when the family temporarily relocated to Taylors, S.C. He attended East Texas State University and went directly into the wholesale drug business, working for more than 30 years with Stanley Drug, Bergen-Brunswig, and McKesson. Jay was a loving and loyal brother and son. He was a dedicated and loving father who always wanted the very best for his children. He made many sacrifices to ensure this was so. His extended family reaches far beyond his familial unit. Co-workers, business associates, and other friends have been a source of much love, support, and prayers as he battled cancer. His mother, Letha Lovell, preceded him in death. His father, Cloral Lovell of Greenville; his daughter and son-in-law, Melanie and Peter Kearney of Staten Island, N.Y.; two sons, David Lovell of Dallas and Taylor Lovell of McKinney; and granddaughter Olivia Kearney survive him. Other family members mourning his loss are the following siblings and their families: a brother, Mike Lovell of Carrollton and sisters Diane Simpson of Richardson, Jan Riley of Ennis, Susan Cook of Tomball, Kim Bond of Durant, Okla. and Amber Lovell of Nashville, N.C. Numerous nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts and cousins will miss their wild and crazy Jay. His golfing amigos will miss Jay’s golf swing and humor. Jay’s wonderful friend and love of his life, Jennifer Smith joins his family in mourning not only the passing of a great friend but also the loss of what might have been. A remembrance gathering will be held Saturday from 3 to 5 p.m., and a memorial service is scheduled at 4 p.m. Sunday at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen.
