The Messenger regrets to chronicle the death of Ross Spradling, who passed away Thursday afternoon, September 26, 1929, at his home five miles north of Greenville.  Deceased was born at Paducah in Graves County, Kentucky, July 27, 1964, and came with his parents to Hunt County when only three years of age.  The elder Spradling settled near the place which afterward became the home of Ross, and he grew to sturdy manhood and a loyal citizenship amid a rapidly developing and prosperous section of Hunt County.  Aside from farming and the usually pursuits of farm life, he became interested in purebred cattle, hogs, and poultry, being among the first to build up a jersey herd in this section.  He was equally successful in breeding good hogs and poultry and it was the energy, intelligence, and success that gave impetus to his neighbors and other citizens to proceed along similar lines.

Deceased will not be missed alone in the home and family circle, but citizens over the county will feel a great loss at the passing of this thrifty and esteemed co-worker along progressive lines.

In November, 1884, Mr. Spradling and Miss Frances Barnhart were untied in marriage, to which three children were born, these being Mrs. W. A. Beasley, Miss Cleo Spradling, Herbert Spradling, all of Greenville.  His first wife died in May, 1893, and in November, 1896, he and Miss Fannie Bridges were married.  To the latter union were born five daughters and one son, Mrs. Barney Phillips of Greenville, Mrs. Marion Bledsoe of Dallas, Miss Ophelia Spradling, Miss Roselyn Spradling, Marguerite Spradling, and Albert A. Spradling, Jr.  He is also survived by six grandchildren, one brother W. B. Spradling, Sr., and three sisters, Mrs. R. D. Waddle, Mrs.. W. V. Pearce of Greenville, and Mrs. Jim Nicholson of Kingsville, Texas.

Mr. Spradling was a consistent and father member of the Baptist Church and funeral services were conducted Friday afternoon at Jacobia Baptist Church by his pastor, Rev.. J. L. Truett, assisted by Rev.. H. T. Money, a lifelong friend of the deceased.

Active pallbearers were nephews of the deceased, as follows:  Claude Pearce, Johnnie Spradling, Albert Spradling, Henry Waddle, Charles Spradling, John Black Spradling, and W. B. Spradling, Sr., brother.
