Thelma Ila Work Morrow

Services for Thelma Ila Work Morrow, 90, were held at 2:00 PM, Monday, March 19, 2007, at the Southside Baptist Church in Denison with Pastor Keith Taylor of the church officiating. Burial followed at Fairview Cemetery. The family was at the funeral home from 4:00 to 5:00 PM, Sunday, March 18th.

Thelma went to be with Lord and Savior on March 16, 2007, after a lengthy bout with cancer.

Thelma was born on October 1, 1916, in Denison, Texas, the daughter of Thomas Edward McCarty and Maude LeAnna Segler McCarty. She was married to Francis Work on February 2, 1936, at Madill, Oklahoma. Francis died on May 15, 1960. She then married Clayton Morrow on July 11, 1961, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Clayton died on May 7, 1986.

She had a long career in the garment manufacturing business and, after retirement, she enjoyed being a housewife. Thelma was a longtime member of Southside Baptist Church where she was an active participant of the Grace Sunday School Class, the Senior Saints, and she assisted, for many years, in caring for the children in the nursery.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Francis Work and Clayton Morrow; five brothers, Jesse McCarty, Leonard McCarty, Archie McCarty, Floyd McCarty, and George McCarty; four sisters, Bertha Mae Swindle, Elizabeth Pearl McCarty, Bessie Lorene Moreland, and Ruth Helen Knight.

Thelma is survived by one step-daughter, Betty Louise Crow of Tampa, Florida; two step-sons, Billy Lynn Morrow of Whitesboro, Texas and Earnest A. Morrow of Denison, Texas. Also surviving are nieces and nephews, Ray Swindle, Betty Lou Swindle Belfiore, David Swindle, Tom McCarty, Carla McCarty Ashlock, Delores Stevens, and Anita Lively. She is also survived by several great-nieces and great-nephews.

She will be missed by her loving family and friends.

If desired, memorials may be made to the building fund at Southside Baptist Church, 1131 South Scullin, Denison, Texas.
