Comments:

Levi V. Arnold, Sr. and his son, William Richard Arnold,
enlisted and served in the same CSA Unit out of Hill Co. TX (Parson's
Brigade). BOTH men were captured at Dallas Co. AR in 1863, and both
ended up as POW's in Camp Douglas, Chicago, IL. Levi, however, did
not survive the ordeal, dying from severe diarrhea while incarcerated.
Levi's father, Elijah, also served the CSA in Frontier Units (Lone
Star Guard) out of Burnet Co. TX, making 3 consecutive generations in the
same war.
Daniel Arnold was killed and scalped by Indians while working cattle in
the area of Coleman/Concho Co. TX for the Richard Coffey outfit. He and
another young cowboy were both buried on the spot where they were killed.
The Arnold family land was among that property that was enumerated with
Kaufman Co. in 1850, but which actually was located in NW Van Zandt Co.,
area of Wills Point. The 1850 Census shows Levi's vocation as a
cabinet maker, and deed records in Van Zandt Co. verify that he did own a
town lot in Canton, no doubt where he practiced this trade.
Son, Levi Vinyard Arnold (father's middle name is believed to have
stood for Valentine, after his Shults grandfather), was married twice to
Annie Victoria McDonald, who had been captured by the Indians about age 7
and lived with them for ten years until she was found by Levi Arnold,
purchased, and returned to her family. The couple married briefly, but
did not continue to live together. Later, after later spouses of both
had died, the couple remarried 7-23-1935.
