EUGENE VOELCKER

Eugene Voelcker, a native of Germany, born in 1830, and came to Texas in 1846. He went back to the old country two years later, and in 1850 he married Louise Schmidt of Germany. He and his bride embarked the same day upon the ship, "Magnet" bound for Texas. Upon landing, they made the arduous trip by ox-wagon from the seaport to Comal County where they located, and made their home for twelve years. They then moved to Kendall County and located on the place near Bergheim known now as the old Sueltenfuss Ranch.

In 1865 Mr. Voelcker died leaving his widow with eight children, seven girls and one boy. The youngest child was but three weeks old when the father died. The widow, undismayed by these responsibilities, kept her family together and brought them up carefully and well. In due time all the children were married. Anna became the wife of Caspar Sueltenfjuss; Mary, the wife of Balthasar Sueltenfuss; Helene, the wife of Moritz Pfeiffer; Augusta, the wife of Anton Sueltenfull; Caroline, the wife of Emil Richter; Clara, the wife of Henry Fink; Eugenia, the wife of Theodore Poss; and Oscar the husband of Emma Wehe.

Mrs. Voelcker lived until 1921 leaving many descendants in the area. - original article by Dolores Sueltenfuss Holman
