According to an article in Recollections of Boerne and Kendall County, Family Histories by Edith Gray, Harm and Mahalia City were ex-slaves when they moved to Boerne in 1900. They had worked for Captain Jones at Curry's Creek. Mrs. Gray says the family is not sure how they obtained the name, City, as it was supposed to be Watkins which was evidently the name of the former owner. (Perhaps one of the family adopted a name to establish a personal identity free of the chains of slavery.)The children of this couple as listed in the article are: Isabella; Harriet (Wren)(Warren); Lorena (Warren); Elvera (Washington); Lucy (Brown); Nellie (Maniard); Robin; Murray; Georgie; Richard; Sebrom

John and Ida Warren are two of Kendall County's citizens of color. They came from Mississippi and Georgia and were ex-slaves of the Hal King family. At one time they lived in Waring, Tx, then later moved to the Bickel Place about five miles from the town of Boerne. The children of John and Ida are listed in Recollections of Boerne and Kendall County, Family Histories as:Molcie; Lizzie(Wren); Sammie; Adam; Susan (Wilborn); Mary (City); Cornelius; Jimmie; Ellie; Katie (Price)
