HISTORY: Ernst Pfeiffer bought one hundred two and one-half
acres from John James in 1871. A cedar log cabin was on the place at that time.
The Pfeiffer's lived in the cabin until they built a two room house of
hand-trimmed native stone with an open porch on the south side. Later two more
rooms of native stone were added on the north side.
Born in Goblenz,
Saxony, Germany, Ernst Pfeiffer, came to America at the age of eleven with his
parents and six brothers and sisters. The family landed at Indianola, settled at
New Braunfels for a short time, then to Bulverde and then on to Boerne. Ernst
married Caroline Vogt in 1871, purchased this property and reared a family of
seven children. In 1891 Ernst died. His wife lived on until 1907. In 1905 their
youngest son, Louis Pfeiffer, purchased the farm from his mother. The Louis
Pfeiffer family remains on the farm to this day. The family has been recognized
by the Texas State Family Land Heritage Program - having owned and operated this
land continuously for 100 years or more.
