GORDON DEAN LEESCH MONUMENT (KOREAN WAR)
This monument was built to honor the Korean War
Veterans, Gordon
Leesch, in particular, being the only Boerne native to die in this
war. It was
erected on the grounds of the Boerne High School. This school has
since become
the Boerne Middle School.
Lt. Gordon Dean Leesch was awarded,
posthumously, the
Purple Heart decoration, Korean Service Medal with one bronze
service star and
United Nations Medal for his service in Korea. He was killed while
leading a
patrol into enemy territory near Songnaedong, North Korea, on
September 30,
1952.
The Boerne Middle School was demolished and a new building erected. It is called Boerne Middle School North.
At that time the Monument was moved to the Veterans Memorial Park on South Main Street.
