DESCRIPTION: One and one-half story wooden frame farmstyle house with front typically Victorian style porch without "gingerbread" which was removed; has an unusual 1/3 size 2nd story porch with entrance door. White picket fence in front.

HISTORY: The land where this home stands was originally a part of a large tract bought by Bernard Hagemann from John James a surveyor, in the first years of the town. The original trace was bounded on the South by Rock Street, on the East by Main, and on the North by Schleicher and on the West by Liveoak Street. It was later divided into ten lots, this particular one being #6 on modern city maps. As near as can be found a three room house was constructed in 1890, though a smaller house may have been there before that. Through the years many rooms with two baths on the first floor were added. A stairway graces the living room on the West wall. Besides the living room with its beautiful fireplace, there is a family room with a larger fireplace, a dining room, kitchen, small office and three bedrooms downstairs and a very large bedroom upstairs. Under the house is a large basement used for storage. The additional rooms were made to continue the early architecture style with deep set windows and side sills. The early part of the house had high ceilings and large doorways adding to the coolness in Texas summers. At present the frame house is painted to suggest a New England style, as the South side and the porch walls are a charcoal gray, with the rest of the house all white. The interior furnishings are mostly sturdy and comfortable, though they are beautiful antiques, making picturesque views from every angle. This nine room home is well used by Marlene and Jack McGinnis and their five children, Ronnie, Robin, Donna, Jack and Kevin. The land was originally a part of Comal County, so that the records can be found in the books of Comal County in our own Kendall County Court House. See Deed Record Bk.
