Edgar and Cathy purchased the property in 1959, a few months before the birth of their fourth son. Edgar, Jr. held the position of City Manager of Boerne at this time. Cathy was teaching in the Boerne High School. Six years after moving here, a fifth son was born to them. This new addition to the family prompted them to add on to the house and to change the appearance of the facade. The house was originally a a frame bungalow with a small front porch. Another room was added to the front section, and the brick facade was added across the front, including the porch, which was enclosed. This created an entry porch for the interior of the house.
