INGENHUETT (HERMAN) HOUSE
436 8TH Street, Comfort
HISTORY: This house began as a 3-room house and was expanded in
1905. It was the home of Herman and Tonie Hedwig Flach Ingenhuett from their
marriage in 1895 until their deaths and remained in the family until 2000.
Herman acquired the Ingenhuett livery stable and cotton yard from his
father, Peter Ingenhuett, about 1895. He served as postmaster of Comfort from
1908 until 1915. The Ingenhuetts reared two daughters on their homestead which
included a house, barn, wash house, smokehouse and cistern. One daughter,
Elizabeth, married a Dan Hoerster, Sr. of Fredericksburg. The other daughter,
Minnie Toni married Arthur Bergmann and remained in the family homestead
throughout her life. Bergmann was a teacher, and later the Comfort Postmaster.
After Minnie Bergmann died in 2000, the house was sold to Robert and Linda Reed
who restored the house to its finest.
