VOGT-JANENSCH-ELLIS HOUSE
108 Rock Street, Boerne
HISTORY: This house was originally a two room rock house, owned by Joe and Ottilie Vogt. Their two oldest children, Hugo and Ida were born while they resided here. When Mr. Vogt decided to locate farther into the Heart of Boerne (south Main), he sold the house to Mrs. Helena Weiss Janensch. She lived here many years, then sold it to her son, William and his wife Katie Saunders Janensch. They renovated after moving in by divising the front room of the old house and adding three more rooms and one and one- half baths. They, too, lived here for many years. Their two children, William, Jr. and Mildred were born and reared here.
After the Janensch children were grown and moved from home, William, Sr. and Katy decided to build a new home on the same block just west of the old residence. The older house was put on the market and sold to three subsequent families and is now (1979) owned by Christine Ellis. No matter who the house is sold to or how many owners it has, it will be known as the Janensch House for several generations to come. -submitted by Anita McDonald from notes by Nellmarie Huff.
