Kreutzberg community grew up around the place where Joseph Vincent Phillip and his wife Barbara Schweitzer had settled in their new country. Joseph was born in Pilsen, Bohemia and his wife was from Alsace-Lorraine. They had left the old country about 1860 then settled on there land on the Sabine Creek in Kendall County. After a few years had passed, he placed a wooden cross on top of a tree that was on a hill located at the farm end of his pasture. The cross was placed there to show directions. In later years the wooden cross was replaced by a concrete cross which is now known as Kreutzberg.
