POTCHERNICK-HERBST HOUSE,
145 Upper Cibolo Road, Boerne

HISTORY: The home of Felix and Anita Herbst is situated on a hill overlooking the Cibolo Creek. It has been in the family for almost eighty years. Anita's father, Herman Potschernick, purchased this beautiful site in 1904. At that time there was a small one room house. In 1905, Hermann married Emilie Bergmann, daughter of Charles H. and Pauline Bergmann, and they settled in the small house. Later, in 1914, they built a beautiful rock home at this same site. The stone used in the house was cut from the creek bank. Anita was born on the ranch and attended the Upper Cibolo School, a small one room school house. She never moved away from the ranch. She married Felix Herbst of Cypress Hill, April 6, 1946.

Felix is the son of Frank and Marie Reiner Herbst who lived in Comfort, Texas. Felix and Anita purchased the ranch in 1946 and continued the farming and ranching practices begun by her parents. Running a small dairy and raising chickens in addition to ranching became a full-time business.
