SCHIEBEL-CHANDLER-WATKINS HOUSE
IH 10 W 3 mi. S of
Comfort
HISTORY: This 100 year old house was originally built in the
"Irish Flats" of San Antonio by Carl Schiebel for his son, Carl, Jr.
In
1918 the Samuel Chandler family remodeled the house to accomodate Mrs.
Chandler's grand piano and make room for the many concerts and socials she liked
to have in her home.
Studies in 1978-79 by San Antonio Conservation
Society and the San Antonio Historic Preservation Office identified this house
as a building to save. They were unable to find a place to move the
house
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Watkins of Houston negotiated to move the house
30 miles out IH-10 to their 13 acre site close to Comfort.
