HISTORY: This building was built in 1916 for Arno Schwethelm for his mercantile busiiness. Later uses included a variety store, grocery store, drygoods business, and an ice cream and game parlor.
In 1982 the
building was donated to the Comfort Public Library by the Schwethelm family. The
library had outgrown its facility across the street in the old Comfort Bank
Building.
This building was designated as Texas Historical Landmark in
1981.
