Note: Mathies Baumann, father of the Baumann family in Kendall County, was born in Germany and came to Boerne about 1850. He was a blacksmith by trade and had his shop on the corner of South Main and River Road. The family lived in a house on the north end of the lot. Mr. Baumann was first married to Anna Katrina Hutzler of San Antonio. She died in 1864. He married Friedrika Ertel. Matthies was buried along the Rock Wall. Like many of the the tombstones along the rock wall, Mathias' stone is no longer there. I have not located the other three tombstones which are missing from our photograph list.
