WATTS-SPRAYBERRY HOUSE
403 Theissen (formerly 108 Saunders), Boerne

DESCRIPTION: One story house; steep roof over main portion of house; porch across south half of front; wood and rock posts at corner and entrance of porch; original screened porch later closed in to make a bed room; Fireplace in north room; beautiful built-in china cabinet and bookcases.

HISTORY: Elmer Watts, the cabinet maker, used his skills to provide this house a unique china cabinet in the center room. The living room had a fireplace flanked by built-in book cases and there were bookcases on each side of the entrance to the dining area. He and his wife, Mary (Pfeiffer) Watts lived here until their deaths. Mary outlived Elmer, and they had no children. She died about 1954 leaving the house to her sister, Olga Pfeiffer Richter. Mrs. Richter used the house as a rental. Edgar Schwarz, Jr. and his family lived here from 1955 until 1959. The house was later sold to Roy Liesman who still used it as rental property. Kendall County purchased and renovated the house for office space. Eddie John Vogt, Justice of the Peace, occupied the building for several years. When Kendall County built the 1998 courthouse the house was bought by Mr. and Mrs. Ray Sprayberry. They moved the house to a new location on Theissen Street.

After several years of intensive renovation, the house is open as a bed and breakfast.
