WASP CREEK

The small community of Wasp Creek was settled in the mid-1800's that included the Oscar Bergmanns, the William Magers family and the Behr and Herbst families. Alfred Behr grew up in Sisterdale was married to Sophie Wollschlaeger. in 1878. To this couple was born Otto Behr in 1879. Otto Behr married Emma Schwope, a neighbor girl, in 1908. This couple lived in Wasp Creek in their early years of marriage. Tragically, Sophie W. Behr, died in a horse and buggy accident returning home to Sisterdale on the morning of October 9, 1915 after spending the night at the Wasp Creek home of her son, Otto.

William Magers, another resident of Wasp Creek, was one of the young men who went on the cattle drives up the Chisholm Trail to Abilene, Kansas. He also did ranch work west of Kerrville where the stock roamed free without fencing. Any cattle that was caught had to be roped. William married Hermina von Donop who was born in Hanover, Germany in 1858. Their five children were born at Wasp Creek. Hermina lived until 1889 leaving William with several young children.

>Charles Herbst and his wife, Anna Konze, bought a ranch on Wasp Creek where their children were born and grew up. The old home place is still owned by their descendants in this year of 2004.
