BEISSNER-ZOELLER HOUSE
711 S. Main,Boerne
HISTORY: In 1974 Mr. John E. Beissner died at the age of 78. In
his obituary this statement follows. "He was born in Galveston, Texas, and when
a lad his family moved to Boerne where he grew to manhood. He was known to his
many Boerne friends as Edward Beissner. His father and mother built the home now
owned by Mrs. Attie Zoeller."
According to deed records the house passed
to his sister, Bertha B. Knight in 1929. Then she and her husband sold to
William Wasman in 1935. From these owners it went to Ernst A. Dreiss in 1940,
then to Jennie C. Springall in 1943, and to L.A. Ehrhart in 1946.
In 1949
it became the home of Attie Zoeller. Mrs. Zoeller, a widowed mother of one son,
Franklin, taught in the Boerne Schools many years. She rented part of the many
rooms to single ladies. Jennie Tatum and Sybil Pustejovsky, were two of the
teachers who roomed with Mrs. Zoeller.
Ella Schrove lived in an
apartment made from the southwest wing. She will be known by many as the
owner/operator of "Ella's Beauty Salon" on Main Street during the 1950's through
1970's.
As the demand for commercial space on Boerne's Main Street grew
this house, like many others, was transformed from living quarters to commercial
space. The first commercial owners of the property were Connie and Jack C.
Patterson, Jr. It was again passed to other owners in the 1990's.
