James P. Russell, who was nearing his 97th birthday, died at 10 a.m. Friday, January 1.  He had been confined to his home 11 miles north of town, for about four years and his death was not unexpected.
 
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. George Brown of Temple, assisted by Rev. Shipman, at the School Creek Baptist church at 2:30 Saturday afternoon. Interment was in the Smith Cemetery.
 
Survivors include one son, Uel Russell of Lampasas with whom his father lived; three daughters, Mrs. Claudia Kerns and Mrs. Collon Kerns, and Mrs. Emma Daniels who lives in the state of Washington, and 13 grandchildren.
 
Mr. Russell was born in Mississippi  April 16, 1857.  He lived in this county for many years. His wife preceded him in death in 1930.
