Durst Cemetery

From the intersection of FM 977 and highway 75 in Leona, go east on FM 977 1.60 miles to CR 142.   Go left on CR 142, 0.50 miles to a gate with a cattle guard on the left side of the road.   Cross over the cattle guard and follow the driveway curving to the right at a barn.   Going past a tank on the left and then curving back to the left past a house.   At this point you can see a sign on the fence corner just at the edge of the woods saying “DURST CEMETERY” with a date of 1849.   Keep following the trail a total of 0.30 miles from CR 142 to the cemetery.   There is a large area that is fenced with barbed wire.   Within this area is an area that is about 50 feet square that has a 4 – foot stone wall around it that is the main burial area.   Out side of this stone enclosure is a huge pile of stones that is at least 4 feet high, 6 feet wide and 15 feet long.   It is bound to be a grave but does not have any markings.   There is a smaller pile of stones about 2 fee tall and 4 feet wide and 4 feet long that could be another grave.   There are 9 tombstones out side of the stone enclosure.
