| NOTES: This family came to Leon County from Alabama in 1856 with their first 10 children. James W. SLATTER (b.1814) and Lewis SLATTER (b. 1826) also came to Leon County from Alabama about 1856 with their families. Mary Ann and these two SLATTER men may have been siblings. Wm. Boykin was called "Uncle Jack". He was a school teacher, preacher, Justice of the Peace and farmer. He established an Academy in the 1860's at the Flo Community and taught teenage boys reading, writing, and arithmetic. There was also a chapel associated with the Academy. He was the founder of Boykin Chapel Cemetery at the same site as the Academy and chapel and was the first person to be buried there. |
