Pierson History

Submitted by Felix Green, Sept 10, 2008

My maternal Great-Great-Grandfather lived in Houston County, Texas in 1880.

Wesley Pearson and Sarah T had several children and several step-children, namely:  Aaron, Alice, Richard, John (Wisly), William, Maladdi, Jessee, James Wilson, Jane Wilson, Charley Wilson, William Wilson, Lizie Brown and John Edine.

My maternal Great-Grandfather, John Wesley (Wisly) Pierson & Adaline (Austin) are listed in Anderson County on the 1900 census with my Grandfather John Anderson Pierson and his siblings: Pearl and Beulah.

1910 found John Anderson Pierson and wife Estella Elizebeth (Barnett) recently married and still living in Anderson County. John Anderson’s older brother Preston Pierson married Annie Pierce and resided in Anderson County also.

The Pierson families were not included in the1920 Census but between 1910 and 1930 my Grandfather moved to Oakwood in Leon County. The 1930 census changed the spelling back to Pearson once again. My uncle and aunts were Johnny and Jeffrey (twins), Althia, Zummer (my Mom), Onita, Edward, Deon, Willie and FCL. The family were share croppers on land owned by Jim Shaw and located approximately 5 miles east of Oakwood on 542 with a mailing address of Rt. 1, Box 11.

Grandmother’s parents were Jeff and Cordelia Barnett who resided in Anderson County.  Pearl Pierson (my Grandaunt) married Edd Barnett who is a son of Joseph and Jannie Barnett.  Jeff and Joseph were brothers.  Down through the years there were other marriages between the Piersons and Barnetts.

My Dad (Felix Green) lived in Buffalo when he met my Mom and I don’t know much about Grandpa Green.
