HARVEY GENE ATKINSON - Died 10 February 2009 – Walters Funeral Home

Graveside funeral services for Harvey Gene Atkinson, age 76, of Buffalo were held at 11 AM on Saturday, February 14, 2009 at the Centerville Cemetery. Rev. James Engel, pastor of the First Baptist Church in Jewett, officiated. Walters Funeral Home in Centerville was in charge of all arrangements.

Harvey Gene Atkinson was born April 1, 1932 in La Pryor, Texas to Hollis Bennett and Gladys Mae (Bingham) Atkinson. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He attended the University of Texas and for several years, worked on X-Ray equipment. Later, he owned and operated Creedmoor Country Store in Creedmoor, Texas. Harvey lived his last nine years in Buffalo and worked for B & B Grocery (now Brookshire Bros.) in Jewett. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Jewett. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Tommy Atkinson. Harvey Atkinson died in a Palestine Hospital late Tuesday, February 10, 2009.

His survivors include his wife, Sherry Atkinson of Buffalo; a son and daughter-in-law, William “Bill” and Susie Atkinson of Buffalo; two step-daughters, Melanie Brown and husband, Troy, of Centerville and Laura Goolsby and husband, Ronnie, of Crockett; brothers, Hollis Atkinson of Granbury and Edwin Atkinson of La Pryor; five grandchildren: Debbie De Leon and husband, Augustine, Laura Atkinson, William Gene “Junior” Atkinson, Jr., Samantha Leann Atkinson and Montana Brown and eight great grandchildren: Gustavo, Andreas, Desiree, Elijah, Maria, Isabell, Bianca and Daniella.
