Effie Mae Batson – Died 25 December 2008 – Walters Funeral Home

Funeral services for Effie Mae Batson, age 95 of Buffalo, Texas, formerly of Normangee, Texas are set for 2:00 P.M. Sunday, December 28, 2008 at the Walters Buffalo Funeral Home in Buffalo, Texas. Rev. Melvin Lowe and Mary Ann Lowe will officiate the service. Walters Buffalo Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Interment will be in the Sardis Cemetery near Jewett.

Visitation hours will be at the funeral home on Saturday, December 27, 2008 from 1 pm until 8 pm with the family present from 6 pm until 8 pm to receive friends.

Effie Mae was born April 4, 1913 in Normangee, Texas to William Gable and Ida Mae (Henry) Hennard. She lived in Normangee until she came to live with her daughter, Doris Woods and husband “Blackie.” She was known as “Granny” and “Little Granny” to many that knew her. She was Baptist and had attended Ephesus Baptist Church every Sunday with her daughter Doris, until three years ago when she went into the nursing home in Buffalo. She always ask for everyone to pray for her.

“Little Granny” was a sweetheart to her family and everyone that knew her. She loved everyone and was so appreciative of everything that was done for her, or things that was given her. She was a homemaker all her life. She never had much; she had a hard life but a long life. She never complained about anything. Some of her expressions were “I’m just fine” “You’re as sweet as sugar,” and “You sure are pretty.” “Little Granny” will truly be missed, but she has gone to be with the Lord, and we will see her again! She passed away December 25, 2008 in Copper Creek Nursing Home.

Effie was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, George Newsom and Houston Batson; daughter, Francis Overcash Bishop; son in-law, Loyd Overcash; brother, Willie G. Hennard; sister in-law, Dolly Hennard; half sisters, Edna Newsom and Mary Jane Hennard; nephew, Willie “Junior” Hennard; and a great-great grandchild, Jennifer Glenn Hamil.

Effie was survived by one daughter, Doris Woods of Buffalo, Texas; five grandchildren, William Thomas Towery and wife Becky of Flint, Texas, Mary Ann Howard and husband, Lloyd Denny of Buffalo, Texas, Netia Lou Hullum and husband, Sidney of Buffalo, Texas, Loyd Allen Overcash and wife Patty of Houston, Texas, and Jo Ann Allen and husband, Abb of Spring, Texas; nine great grandchildren; and sixteen great -great grandchildren; two nephews and three nieces.

The pallbearers are Nicholas “Nick” Howard, Joe Graves, Trent Hullum, Jim Hamil, William Thomas “Cutter” Towery, Bryan Keith Towery, Nathan Towery, Aaron Overcash, and Kenny Morris.

Funeral services are under the direction of Walters Buffalo Funeral Home in Buffalo.
