Mexia Daily News Obituary Notice dated March 19, 1953:

Funeral Services will be held at the Riddle Chapel in Mexia tomorrow at 3 p.m. for Mrs. Irene Black, 81, who died at the home of her son, Elijah Black, in the Tehuacana Valley yesterday morning. The services will be conducted by the Rev, L.W. Shivers, pastor of the Maybank Methodist Church, and the Rev. J.C. Douglas, pastor of the Shiloh Baptist Church. Burial will in the Mexia Cemetary with the Riddle Funeral Home in charge of
arrangements.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Mrs. Black was born at Lovelady in Walker County on March 12, 1872, and had lived in the Tehuacana Valley for the past 66 years. Widow of the late G.D. Black, she was a member of the Methodist Church.

She is survived by seven sons, Lee, Dee, John, and Elijah Black, all of Mexia; Dan Black, Mart; Allen Black, Teague; and George Black, Houston; and four daughters as follows: Mrs. Cecil McDonald, Shiloh; Mrs. Jack Kelly, Houston; Mrs. Irene Ellis, Sweeney; and Mrs. Cleonia Campbell, Fairfield. Also surviving is a brother, Almer Hall, of Midway; 24 grand-children, and 23 great-grand-children.
