A Distressing Affair In Jefferson, Texas.-- On the morning of April 26, about 3 o'clock, a two story brick house known as the Ruby Saloon, in Jefferson, TExas, tumbled into ruin. When the affair became known, naturally very alarming reports arose as to the number of inmates of the house at the time of its fall. Thorough search however proved that its only inmates were Bob, a negro, who was extricated unhurt and G.W. Wooldridge, the proprietor, who was the only victim of the catastrophe.
The building destroyed was worth about $6000. The bar stores, belonging to Mr. Dan Odell, were completely destroyed, and his dry goods greatly damaged. Loss not estimates.
The Jefferson Times Extra, from which we gather the above facts, says that someone asked Bob to go after some one a short distance off, but he stoutly declined, saying if he moved a rod from there the Ku-Klux would get him. However he continued to work faithfully until the labors ceased.
