Echols, Ben T.

Death of B. T. Echols

     The death of Mr. Ben T. Echols occurred Wednesday morning January 31st at 8:30 after a lingering illness from consumption. Mr. Echols had been a citizen of the county and city for many years. He leaves a wife, two daughters and three sons and other relatives. The funeral services took place at the family residence on Thursday at 10 a.m. It was conducted by Rev. Jno W. Holt, after which the remains were taken to the family graveyard near Lodi for interment. Mrs. J. W. Welborne and Mrs. Martha Houston of Longview, Mrs. J. W. Bledsoe of Glenwood, and Mrs. Chapman of Farmersville, sisters of Mr. Echols and Mrs. J. R. Echols of Houston and George Echols of Little Rock, Arkansas and his children were here.

     JEFFERSON — Services for Nellie Edwards of Jefferson will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Enon Baptist Church with Pastor M.L. Curry officiating. Arrangements are by Burton Funeral Home.

A Fatal Railway Accident.
Cincinnati, Feb. 20.-- As the Ohio & Mississippi passenger train, east-bound, was leaving North Vernon, Indiana, this morning, it encountered a broken rail. The entire train passed over in safety except the rear sleeper, which was thrown down an embankment and wrecked. Two persons, so far as kknown were killed, and several injured. One of the killed was Mr. Eldridge, of Jefferson, Texas. The names of the others are not yet known.


Elliott, Mrs. Helen

Mrs. Helen Elliott Dies In Dallas

     Mrs. Helen Elliott died in Dallas at 7:20 a.m. at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Vires, following a lengthy illness, she was 78 years old. Mrs. Elliott was the widow of the late Sercy Elliott, who was among the first mayors of Jefferson. Since leaving Jefferson, Mrs. Elliott has often visited here as the guest of Mrs. E. C. Summers, whose sister was the first wife of Mr. Elliott. Mrs. Elliott was buried at Forney, Texas.


Erambert, Mrs. W. H.

Mrs. W. H. Erambert Buried Here Monday

     Mrs. Ellen Caroline CARTER Erambert, 85, wife of W. H. Erambert, Sr. died at her home on Line Street Sunday night, January 14th after several weeks of illness. Mrs. Erambert was born in Georgia on March 14th, 1854 and was married to Mr. Erambert at age 16, four children were born to this union, and two still survive and were present at the funeral. After leaving Georgia, Mr. & Mrs. Erambert came to Cass County, then Jefferson, where they made their home for many years.

Note: William H. & Ellen C. Erambert are buried in the Oakwood Cemetery in Jefferson, Texas.


Eschwing, Earl Ernest

Young E. E. Eschwing Passes Away

     Earl Ernest Eschwing, youngest child of George C and Zenna BRANTLEY Eschwing was born at Cushing, Oklahoma, 21 April 1913 and died 13 September 1916. His parents were raised and married in Marion County.


Estes. Mrs. Jane

Mrs. Estes Dies In Dallas

     Mrs. Jane Estes, 85, the widow of the late Major William Estes of Texarkana, died at 1 a.m. this morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. F. E. Gillett, 719 North Madison Street in Dallas. She had been a resident of Dallas for fifteen years. She is survived by two children, Mrs. Gillett of Dallas and Judge J. M. Moore of Cleburne. The funeral services will be held today in Dallas. Mrs. Estes is well remembered in Jefferson as she and her husband resided here a number of years. Major Estes was associated with Hossack & Estes and was also a local reporter on the Daily Jimplecute at one time.


Evans, J. J.

Mr. Evans Dies At Blossom, Texas

     Mr. John J. Evans, a leading businessman of Kildare died at Blossom at the home of his son-in-law, Mr. Goodnight, Saturday, June 13th at 6 p.m., he was 70 years old. Mr. Evans was born in Harris County, Georgia 20 June 1843, he married Miss Mary Francis Goodman in 1866 and came to Texas in 1869. He had resided in Cass County at Kildare ever since. The body was brought to Kildare on #1 Monday morning. The services were held at the church by Rev. T. S. Bomar of Jefferson. The Masons were in charge of services at the cemetery, which was conducted by William Clark of Jefferson. He is survived by his wife, a son, E. C. Evans and two daughters, Mrs. Goodnight of Blossom, Red River County and Mary Alverde  lives in Texarkana.

Note: He is buried in the Kildare Cemetery in Cass County, beside his wife and three grandchildren.
