Mrs. Nedith Manning Dies
Mrs. Nedith Manning, wife of Mr. Theo Manning, died at her home near the New Prospect community January 21st. and was buried at New Prospect Cemetery Wednesday, the services were conducted by Bro. Williams. Mr. Manning and his wife had just moved to this community from South Carolina last summer; her mother died when she was young. She leaves a father, sister and brother in South Carolina, her husband and child here to mourn her loss.
Note: Geneva GRUBBS Manning was born 02 June 1889 in South Carolina and died 22 January 1908. Her baby, Clara Bell was born 10 January 1908 and died 5 July 1908. Both are buried at the New Prospect Cemetery.

Mrs. Mason Dies At Brownwood
Mr. Charlie Smith, received word Monday afternoon of his niece, Mrs. D. M. Mason of Brownwood died at 2 p.m. The body reached here Tuesday, accompanied by Mr. Mason, his two little sons and her sister, Virginia Jacobs and her brother Rufus Jacobs and Mr. Rives of Ft. Worth. The body was taken to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Louie Restelle. Burial took place Wednesday morning at 9 a.m. at the Smith graveyard and buried beside her mother, Mrs. Alice Jacobs. The services were conducted by the Rev. C. T. Cummings. Mrs. Mason leaves a devoted husband, two little sons and a 2 week old baby girl, her father, a sister, Virginia and two brothers, Rufus and Charlie. She was known here as Miss Bessie Jacobs and had lived here until her marriage to Mr. Mason.

Maxwell, Willie Ertest

One More Sad Death
Little Ertest Maxwell, the daughter of Charlie B. and Jennie Maxwell died January 17th 1905. Her father was clearing near the house and her mother was milking, she caught fire and before they could get to her, her clothes were all burned off except her shoes and stockings, she only lived for about two hours.
Note: Willie Ertest Maxwell was born 2 October 1901. She is buried in the New Prospect Cemetery between her parents.

McAdoo Dies From Cancer
Mr. Frank McAdoo died Saturday, May 29 at 2 p.m. at the family home four miles north of this city, after a long and painful sickness from cancer, he was 54 years old. Mr. McAdoo was born in Bosque County, Texas and came to Marion County at age 8 years to make his home with an uncle, the late Eli Moore.He is survived by wife and six children; Moore and his wife, Edgar, James and his wife of Dallas, Mrs. Horace Smith, Mrs. Johnie Faviel and Miss Mary McAdoo; and five grandchildren. The funeral took place Sunday at 3 p.m., with interment in the New Prospect Cemetery, Rev. J. H. McCrary conducted the services.

McCasland, Carroll

10 Year Old Boy Killed
News was received Tuesday afternoon of the accidental killing of little Carroll McCasland, 10 year old son of Dr. J. N. McCasland at Lassater about 11 a.m. J. C. McCasland, a brother of Dr. McCasland was taking down an old trestle on the Glen Lumber Company road, which ran through his field. A large timber fell and struck Carroll about the middle of his body. Carroll and a little brother were under the trestle, but the workers were not aware of it, the brother escaped injury. The burial took place Wednesday.

Miss Mamie McCasland was born 25 December 1895 and departed this life 24 April 1914. She was the daughter of Mr. J. C. McCasland, she is survived by her father and three sisters.

Infant Son Dies At Home
Howard S. McClaran, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. T. A. McClaran died at the family residence on North Franklin Street, June 7th at 12:15 a.m., he was nine days old. The funeral service was held at the family residence this afternoon at 4:20 p.m. with interment in the Greenwood Cemetery. He was the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Stutz of Jefferson.

Mr. McCoy, A Colored Gentleman Died Saturday
The death of A. M. McCoy [colored] occurred Saturday, September 4th at 6 p.m. at his home in this city after an illness of 21 days from typhoid fever, he was 78. He was the first porter of the M. K. & T depot. The deceased leaves eight sons, all grown, his wife preceded him some 10 years ago. He was a member of the St. Paul M. E Church, where the funeral was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, the burial took place in the colored cemetery in the northwest suburbs of this city,

Mrs. Carrie McDonald Buried Wednesday Afternoon
Mrs. Carrie BOWER McDonald, wife of John T. McDonald and daughter of late M. and Margaret Jane Bower, pioneer citizens of Jefferson. She died at the Markham-McRee Clinic in Longview on Tuesday morning, September 3, 1940. She was born in Jefferson on July 5th, 1880 and married John T. McDonald of Jefferson on April 26th 1899. To this union were born two daughters, Margaret [Mrs. Marion Randell Randlett] and Bessie [Mrs. J. Aubrey Lee.] Survivors include her husband, two daughters, Margaret of Wau Watosa, Wisconsin and Bessie of Nacogdoches, Texas, one sister, Mrs. Alice BOWER Frank and one brother Phil M. Bower, both of Jefferson and four grandsons, Sam L. Randlett of Wau Watosa, John Randell Lee and George Allen Lee, both of Nacogdoches, several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted in the chapel of Haggard Funeral Home in Jefferson on Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m. with the Rev. D. Townes Windham, pastor of the First Methodist Church of Jefferson, and assisted by the Rev. Fred E. Faw, pastor of the First Methodist Church of Longview.

Mr. McNeely Dies At Beaumont
The funeral of S. A. McNeely, former manager of the tie and piling department of the Kinley Lumber Company, who died Saturday at Beaumont, will be held this afternoon at 3 p.m. from the chapel of the Sid Westheimer Co. The Houston Order of Elks # 151 will have charge of the services, Dr. E. P. West will officiate, with burial in the Glenwood Cemetery. Mr. McNeely formerly lived here and was well-known.

Mrs. Barbara Merzbacher passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. George Kistenmacher on Lafayette Street Friday, December 3rd after an illness of several months, she was 85 years old.

Old Citizen Dies North of Jefferson From Meningitis
David W. Mims died at his residence in the north portion of this county, Friday, December 1 after a brief illness of meningitis. Mr. Mims emigrated to Texas from Macon County, Alabama in 1846 and has resided in Marion County ever since. He was the son of Hon. Henry Mims and brother to John W. Mims, David was 41 years old.
Note: Lewis David Wimberly Mims was born 25 February 1834 and died 1 December 1875, he is buried at Mims Chapel Cemetery.

Old Citizen, Mr. Mims Dies
H. A. Mims, known as Uncle Henry passed away Monday morning April 5th at 3 a.m. Mr. Mims was born in Georgia in 1840 and came to Texas when he was six years old with his mother. He has lived here in the same community ever since, he is a member of M. E. Church for fifty years. He served 4 years in the Confederate army and has been married three times. He was the father of fifteen children, eleven survive him along with his widow. He was laid to rest in the Mims Chapel Cemetery last Tuesday, April 6th, with services conducted by Bro. J. L. Red, pastor.

Mrs. Minter Dies At Family Home Here
Mrs. M. J. Minter died Friday, November 15 after an illness of some time at the family home in this city. Mrs. Minter was a resident of Jefferson for many years. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Kelly and three sons, James at home, Will at Marshall and Dick in another state. The funeral took place Saturday at 3 p.m. with interment in the Oakwood Cemetery with the Rev. Huffmiester conducting the services.

Mr. Moody Dies From Blood Poisoning in Memphis
Preston Moody died suddenly Friday at this home in Memphis from blood poisoning. Mr. Moody was a native of Jefferson , his mother and sister resides in Jefferson. His wife and two daughters survive him in Memphis, where the burial took place. Mr. Moody worked for Morris Packing Company of that city.

Miss Mat Moore
News was received of the death of Miss Mat Moore, which occurred from a stroke of paralysis on the 22nd, at San Marcos, Texas, where she lived with her niece, Mrs. L. Perry. L. Perry came with the remains Friday morning and they were taken to the residence of W. F. Jones, from where the funeral was held at 3 p.m. with interment in the Oakwood Cemetery. Miss Mat Moore was a resident of Jefferson for many years and a most noble christian woman. Relatives and friends here sorrow at her death.

Sallie Morgan Dies
Sallie Morgan of Lodi, died at the home of M. & Mrs. M. Manning in Jefferson Monday night at 12. The body was taken to Lodi for burial on Wednesday morning, Rev. T. S. Bomar conducted the services.

Mr. Moseley Dies At Lodi
C. Fox Moseley died at his home in Lodi Tuesday Morning, December 7th at 12:20 after an illness with tuberculosis that had lasted several years, he was 50 years old. He is survived by his widow, one son and two daughters, three brothers, J. B. Moseley and Dr. J. A. R. Moseley of Jefferson and Sam Tom Moseley of Vivian, Louisiana; three sisters, Mrs. Reves Browning and Mrs. John W. Browning of Vivian, Louisiana and Mrs. M. D. K. Taylor of Smithland. Services were held at the home at Lodi by George Sylvers, Presbyterian minister from Texarkana, after which the body was brought to the Oakwood Cemetery for burial and where services were completed.

A Sad Accident
At Smithland, last Saturday, several boys were playing in the woods, they pulled down a dead pine tree and it fell on Clarence Moseley, aged 14 years, son of Mr. John Moseley, a merchant at that place, killing him instantly. The funeral took place Monday, conducted by Rev. H. J. Hayes, of Jefferson.
Note: Clarence N. Moseley born 29 December 1895 - died 2 January 1910 s/o John William & Alice PEAVY Moseley. He is buried in the Smithland Cemetery sometimes called Moseley Cemetery, his grave is the oldest marked grave in this cemetery.

Death of Mrs. Fannie Moseley
Mrs. Fannie Moseley, widow of the late A. P. Moseley, died suddenly Monday morning, December 22nd at the home of C. F. Moseley near Lodi, Texas. She had been in feeble health for some time. The funeral took place Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the old graveyard of the family 12 miles northeast of Jefferson.

Fannie E. Moseley was born 1843 the daughter of Fleming and Ann
DEAN Moseley. She married Abner Pulaski Moseley 27 February 1890.
She is buried beside her husband in the Moseley Cemetery.

Imogene Moseley, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. C. F. Moseley of Lodi, died early Tuesday morning, June 22nd at age 14 years, and 7 months. The body was brought to Jefferson Wednesday morning and buried at Oakwood at 1:30. Rev. Cummings, the family pastor conducted the services.

Death of Mrs. Jane Moseley
Mrs. Jane Moseley, widow of the late General Tom M. Moseley passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. S. W. Moseley, Tuesday morning from jaundice, after an illness of several weeks. Mrs. Moseley had resided here many years. She leaves two daughters, Mrs. S. W. Moseley and Mrs. S. P. Smith, Messers Jack R., George F. and Mat Moseley of this city and Sam L. Moseley of Atlanta. The remains left at 6:45 for interment in the family graveyard eight miles east of this city.

Death of W. L. Moseley
Mr. W. L. Moseley passed away at his home on Market Street about 1 a.m. Wednesday morning. He has suffered from consumption, but was able to be up and about. He came here with his family in 1870 to make Jefferson his home, as his son, Dr. B. N. Moseley resides here. Mr. Moseley was born in Donaldson, South Carolina, in 1873 he married Miss Mattie Ellen Conner. The deceased was a good man and liked by all that knew him.
He leaves a devoted wife and children to mourn his loss, to whom we extend our sympathy. The funeral took place at 3 p.m. Thursday afternoon, with interment in the Oakwood Cemetery.

Miss Minnie Mott Dies
Miss Minnie Mott, the eighteen year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Mott died at her home in Davidson, Oklahoma, November 18. The body arrived in Jefferson Monday morning, November 20th and she was buried at the New Prospect Cemetery Thursday at 11 o'clock. Rev. Williams preached the funeral. Her oldest brother and sister, Claud and Hattie and her old grandmother Mott came with body for the funeral.
Minnie leaves a stepmother; three sisters and four brothers to mourn her loss. Her mother died several years ago and her father died a little over a month ago.
Note: She is not listed in the New Prospect Cemetery. There is a unknown rock marked grave beside her father, Thomas Jasper Mott 8 November 1866 - 12 October 1907, which could possibly be Minnie or Thomas' first wife, Lucy COX Mott.

Robert Mott Died In Marshall
Robert Mott died in Marshall and the body was taken to Mt. Zion for burial at 1 p.m. Thursday. Judge P. G. Henderson and C. C. Hines, CC of Cypress Camp W.O. W. went out to the burial, which was attended by some forty sovereigns from the lodge at Lodi. The Church services were conducted by Rev. T. P. Jolly after which the W. O. W. took charge and the ceremony was conducted by Judge Henderson, past CC and C. C. Hines as advisor.
Note: Robert D. "Bob" Mott was born 10 December 1887 and died 26 January 1916, he is buried in the Mt. Zion Cemetery near Jefferson in Cass County. He was the son of John William and Sarah M. BRYANT Mott. He was the husband of Hattie SELLERS, he was killed in WWI.

Z. L. Murphy Dies
Z. L. Murphy died last Monday morning at 8 a.m. He had suffered from rheumatism for many years. He was about 70 years old. He leaves a widow, the remains were buried at Bethel Tuesday. [Newson Argus - June 4] Mr. Murphy lived in Jefferson several years before moving to Newsom. He was related to D. B. Mattox of Jefferson.
