Mr. O'Pry Dies After Lengthy Illness

     J. H. O'Pry died Tuesday morning July 14th at 11:30 a.m. at the home of his step-father and mother, Judge and Mrs. L. B. Todd, after a lengthy illness, he was 36 years old. He had been in failing health for several years. The funeral will be held at the home Wednesday morning at 10:30, conducted by Rev. Henry Baltz of Shreveport, a lifelong friend and relative of the family. The body was laid to rest at the Oakwood Cemetery by the side of his brother, Leslie.

Note: John Henry O'Pry was born 28 October 1875. Cemetery book has the date of death as July 15th.

Death of Leslie O'Pry

     Thomas Leslie O'Pry passed away early Saturday morning at the home of his parents, Judge and Mrs. L. B. Todd after a lingering illness. The funeral took place at 3:30 p.m. Sunday and was largely attended. The services were conducted by Rev. A. A. Wagnon and Masonic order, of which he was a member, interment was in the Oakwood Cemetery.

Dr. O'Rear Died Tuesday

     Dr. B. F. O'Rear died Tuesday morning at his home on Frion Street after a lingering illness. Dr. O'Rear was the county health officer and was a member of the Marion County Medical Association. He came to Marion County from Cass County about five years ago. He leaves five sons, two married and three younger sons, who mourn the loss of a devoted father. The funeral took place Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. with burial in the Oakwood Cemetery, where the body was laid by the side of his wife who preceded him in death last year.

O'Rear, Marvin Conrad

Toying With Gun Causes Tragedy

     While playing with a Winchester rifle at noon yesterday with a playmate and relative, Conway O'Rear, an eight year old boy, visiting relatives in Texarkana from Avinger, Texas, was shot, dying two hours later. The child was playing with an uncle, Jack O'Rear, three years his senior, when he saw the rifle in the corner of the room. He reached for the gun and in some unexplainable manner it exploded, the bullet crashing through his head and brain. The child was immediately taken to a sanitarium, where every effort was made to save the boy's life. Jack O'Rear, the young uncle of the child, is suffering from the shock of the tragedy and is in a serious condition.

Note: Marvin Conrad O'Rear, the son of J. M. and Octiva O'Rear, was born 02 April 1903 and died 26 July 1911.

Odom, J. L.

Mr. Odom Buried In Harrison County

     J. L. Odom living one mile south of this city died Wednesday night May 19th after a lingering illness from tuberculosis at the age of 47. The deceased was buried on Thursday at the Pope graveyard in Harrison County, Texas.

Odum, Mrs. Nora F.

Mrs. Odum Dies

     Mrs. Nora F. Odum died at the family residence one mile south of this city on the Marshall Road, Saturday, March 10th at 4 a.m.. after a short illness. She is survived by three sons, Thomas, Gussie and Robert Williams by her first husband and a little girl, two years old, Lorene Odum, four Odum stepchildren, a mother, Mrs. Chastain and five brothers, Charlie and Fred Chastain near Roseboro Springs, Millard, Edward and Clarence Chastain of Jefferson and a sister, Mrs. Jordan at Texarkana. The funeral was held Sunday at 2 p.m. with burial in the Oakwood Cemetery with the Rev. L. F. Brothers conducting the services.

Note: She is buried under the name of Nora Francis Williams. She was born 4 March 1877 and died 10 March 1917. She is buried next to her first husband, W. T. Williams, he was born 12 October 1855 and he died 6 March 1911.

Oppenheim, Julius

J. Oppenheim Passes Away After Lingering Illness

     Julius Oppenheim died at his home Saturday, February 28th at 6 p.m. after a lingering illness, he was 70 years old. He was born in 1844 and lived in New Orleans until age 18, when he went to Houston, where he served as clerk in the quartermaster's department during the Civil War. About 1867 or 68 , he came to Jefferson where he took charge of his father' s business. He married Miss Carrie Faber in the early 70's and they had six children, two sons and four daughters; Bennie E. Oppenheim holds a position with a large firm in Little Rock, Miss Lillie now Mrs. H. V. E. Hart of Monroe, Louisiana, Arnold B., Misses Sophia, Leah and Frederica are at home. The funeral was held from the residence at 3:30 Monday afternoon with services being conducted by Dr. Friedman, rabbi from Marshall with interment in the Hebrew Cemetery at Oakwood in Jefferson.

Note: Julius Oppenheim was born 15 May 1843 in Germany. He is buried by his wife, Carrie and five of their six children.

Orr, James H.

Former Citizen Dies

     James H. Orr, a former citizen of this county died January 25 at age 87. The burial took place in Hughes Springs and services were conducted by Rev. G. R. Williams and Rev. J. L. Redd.

Note: J. H. Orr 23 November 1827 - 25 January 1915 wife, Susan Ann 02 April 1832 - 24 December 1909 Both buried in the Hughes Springs Cemetery.
