Rainey, J. Wright

Mr. Rainey Dies In Greenville
J. Wright Rainey died at his home in Russell Heights at 9:30 p.m. Sunday night after an illness of a year or more. The funeral services were conducted at the family residence at 3 p.m. yesterday afternoon by Rev. S A. Cowan. The body was interred in the Willow Wild Cemetery. He was the son of Stephen D. Rainey, one of the early pioneers of Northeast Texas. Wright Rainey was born in Bowie County, Texas 66 years ago. His father moved to a plantation in Red River County, when Wright was a boy. As a young man, he moved to Marion County, where he lived for many years, before moving to Bonham, about twenty years ago he lived in Greenville. he engaged in banking and farming and was the director of Fannin County Bank. He is survived by his wife, two sons, Roger and Dupree Rainey. Wright Rainey married Miss Ida Rogers, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Captain T. J. Rogers of Jefferson.

Young Ralph Daughter Dies
Mildred Ralph, age one year, eleven months and 7 days died 16 September 1915, she was the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Carl Ralph.
Note: Mr. & Mrs. Carl Ralph are buried in the New Prospect Cemetery, apparently Mildred is in an unmarked grave.

Johnnie Ramsey Dies At Howellton
Johnnie Ramsey, age 22, the son of Mr. & Mrs. R. Ramsey died Monday at 3 p.m. at their home in Howellton. He had been afflicted with tuberculosis for several years. The funeral was held from the home Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m. with services conducted by the Rev. C. C. Hoffmeister, with interment in the Oakwood Cemetery.

Reavis, Marshall W.

Death of M. W. Reavis
M. W. Reavis died at the sanitarium in Shreveport, Sunday, April 19th at 1:15 p.m. from an operation of appendicitis. His body was brought home on the M.K.&T. passenger train at 12:45 that night by his wife, Dr. Moseley, C. H. Proctor and Mr. Barns. He was held in high esteem thoughout the county, he was a minister, lawyer and the late county attorney. A devoted wife and little two year old son survive him. The funeral took place Monday afternoon at 4 o'clock from the family residence and was largely attended. The services were conducted by Rev. H. T. Cunningham with interment in the Oakwood Cemetery.

Reed, Mrs. A. S.

Mrs. A. S. Reed Dies At Calvert
Mrs. A. S. Reed of Calvert, who died at that place on the 18th of November, her body will arrive here by express this morning and will be interred in the City Cemetery. The deceased was the sister of the wife of Hon. D. B. Culberson of Jefferson. Mrs. Culberson was with her during her sickness. Captain Reed died about three years ago with yellow fever. The orphaned children are left dependent on friends.

Reilly, Mrs. Catherine

Mrs. Reilly Dies In Marshall
Mrs. Catherine Reilly died at her home last night in north Marshall. She was born in Ireland in 1849 and came to this country in 1873, settling in Jefferson. in 1881 she moved to Marshall. She leaves two sons, P. E. Harrington of Ft. Worth, J. B. Harrington of Marshall and a sister, Mrs. Ann Madden of Jefferson. The funeral will take place tomorrow morning from St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Reneau, Mrs. Charles

Death Calls One Of Jefferson’s Most Respected Citizens
Mrs. Charles Reneau, passed away quietly at the home of her daughter, Mrs. L. W. Wood of this city on Friday, July 7th, where funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 8th. Burial took place in the Pyland Cemetery, where Mrs. Reneau was laid to rest beside her husband at 11:30 a.m. She had resided in Jefferson since 1915 at which time she and Mr. Reneau moved here and engaged in the hotel and café business, which they successfully conducted for more than 15 years. Mrs. Reneau was born in Harrison County, Texas August 17, 1876. She was united in marriage October 23, 1894 to Charles W. Reneau. To this union three children were born, Mrs. L. W. Wood and Barnie Reneau of Jefferson and Onie Reneau of Shreveport, all surviving. Two brothers, G. J. and Ed Smith as well as four sisters, Mrs. Lizzie Lawrence and Mrs. Jennie Broadbeck, all of Gilmer and Mrs. G. M. Smart of Jefferson and Mrs. Nora Bronieview of Baltimore, Maryland.

Rice, Mrs. M. V.

Mrs. Rice Dies At Her Sister
Mrs. M. V. Rice, died at the home of her sister, Mrs. George T. Dodd, Tuesday night, January 25th, after an illness of several weeks of grippe, she was 69. Mrs. Rice had resided in Jefferson for a number of years. She was a member of R. E. Lee Chapter UDC. The funeral was held at the residence on Polk Street at 10 a.m. Thursday, with services conducted by Rev. T. S. Bomar, prayer was by Rev. W. M. Joyner with burial in the Oakwood Cemetery.
Note: Mrs. Rice is not listed in the Marion County Cemetery books. Mrs. Rice was the daughter of Mr. Miller, an extensive slave owner before the Civil War near Corinth, Mississippi. She had no children, but had a faithful sister, many friends and other relatives to mourn her death.

Tom Rice
On December 17th, Tom Rice, colored, passed away at his home 10 miles east of Jefferson. Uncle Tom Rice was a good old Christian man and was loved by all who knew him. He leaves four sons and two daughters to mourn his loss. The funeral was largely attended with the Rev. C. S. Williams conducting the funeral. He was buried in the Union Cemetery.

Death of Mrs. Rives
Mrs. Hortense STUART Rives passed away Wednesday after an illness of several weeks. She leaves a son, H. Rives and daughter, Misses Hortense and Annie at home and Miss Helen of Los Angeles, California, who reached here Wednesday; also two granddaughters, Misses Atla and Agnes to mourn the loss of a devoted mother. The funeral takes place Friday afternoon at 4 o'clock from the family residence on Friou Street.
Note: Only date 19 May 1908 - Wife of James Jackson Rives - only date 20 November 1894. Both are buried in the Oakwood Cemetery in Jefferson.

Mrs. R. A. Roberson Dies
Mrs. R. A. Roberson passed away Monday morning, July 15th at her home in Jefferson. She was a native of South Carolina and came to Jefferson in the late 1870's. Her husband died in South Carolina and she was left wth six young children to raise. She is survived by three sons and two daughters; R. W. Roberson of Memphis, Tennessee, C. F. Roberson of San Antonio, Texas, T. S. Roberson of Fort Worth, Mrs. Thomas Burrows of Houston, Texas and Mrs. T. F. Kerr of this city; two granddaughters, Mrs. O. A. Tholan and Miss Minor Lee of Jefferson. The funeral services were held at the home, conducted by Rev. H. J. Hayes, with interment in the Oakwood Cemetery beside her daughter.

Death of G. A. Rogers
George A. Rogers died at San Antonio Tuesday, on the 14th from an operation. His mother, Mrs. T. J. Rogers and brother, B. F. Rogers, were with him when he died and came back with his remains to Longview where the burial took place. The deceased was reared here, moving from here a few years ago to Longview, a wife and a son survive him.

G. D. Rose Of Austwell Dies
Mr. G. D. Rose, formerly of Jefferson died of heart failure Friday morning, January 12th at the home of his son, S. A. Rose of Austwell, Texas. The body was brought to Jefferson on M. K. & T Sunday at 10:40 a.m. and interment was held in the Oakwood Cemetery, with the Rev. T. S. Bomar conducting the ceremony.

Buried at Jefferson
G. W. Rose died in Shreveport on June 25th at 7:30 after a short illness from paralysis. His body was brought back to Jefferson Saturday morning and was met by members of the W.O.W. Camp. The funeral took place at 10:30 a.m. Sunday morning from the residence of Mrs. D. E. Rose, the mother of the deceased, with services conducted by the Rev. T. S. Bomar, after which the W.O.W. Camp took charge of the services at the Oakwood Cemetery. A wife, three children, a mother and father, sisters and a brother survive him.

The Death of Raymond Rose
Raymond Rose, the twelve year old son and oldest child of Mr. and Mrs. S. A. Rose of Anstwell died in a train accident Monday afternoon at Refugio. The remains were brought to Jefferson for burial at Oakwood Cemetery, with services being conducted by Rev. T. S. Bomar.

Rosenfeld, William

Wm. Rosenfeld Dies In Houston
William Rosenfeld of Houston, formerly of Jefferson died in a Houston Hospital on Saturday morning, December 30, after a short illness. Mr. Rosenfeld was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Max Rosenfeld, pioneer citizens of Jefferson. Wiliam was born in Jefferson and graduated from Jefferson High School, after finishing college he located in Houston.
He is survived by his wife, the former Miss Helen Reams of Marshall and one daughter, Naomi and one son, Don. Funeral services were conducted in Houston at 11 a.m. Sunday morning.
Rosenthal, Mr. A.

Mr. Rosenthal Passes Away
Mr. A. Rosenthal passed away Sunday May 23 about 1 p.m. at his home on Houston Street. Mr. Rosenthal had been sick about three weeks. He was born in Painchner, Russia, Poland 80 years ago. He came to this country and was married in New Orleans in 1865. He came to Jefferson in 1867. He had a large clothing and gents furnishings store up until he retired. He leaves two sons, H. H. Rosenthal of Austin and Ansel Rosenthal; two daughters, Miss Dora and Leila at the family home in Jefferson. The funeral was conducted at the home by Rabbi Hirsh of Marshall Monday evening at 4 p.m. and by the Masonic Lodge.

Death of Mrs. Chas. A. Rowell
Mrs. Virgie SCHLUTER Rowell died suddenly Monday night about 11 o'clock. Her parents, the Hon. and Mrs. L. S. Schluter had visited earlier in the evening at the home. She died from heart trouble. The deceased was born and reared in Jefferson, had lived here most of her life. A devoted husband, a son Louis, a sister, Mrs. T. L. Torrans, mother and father and many relatives are left to mourn her loss. The funeral took place Tuesday afternoon at 5 o'clock from the family residence on Alley Street, services were conducted by Rev. H. J. Hayes, with interment in the Oakwood Cemetery.
Note: Virgie Rowell was born 7 July 1871 and died 7 June 1909.
Russell, G. Clint

Lawyer Russell Dies In Texarkana
G. Clint Russell, a young lawyer of Texarkana died at 9 p.m. last night after a week's illness. Death was due to nervous collapse, he was brought to the sanitarium but never rallied. He was 28 years old and is survived by his parents Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Russell and several brothers, who live at Joella, Arkansas. The body was brought to Jefferson for burial. The funeral was held at 4 p.m. at the residence of Mr. G. W. Brown, his father-in-law on Broadway Street. Services were conducted by Rev. Sylvers, Presbyterian minister from Texarkana with interment in the Oakwood Cemetery. He was married to Miss Elwelda Brown of Jefferson.

Rutherford, Dave

Mr. Rutherford Found Dead
Dave Rutherford, colored was found on the side of T & P tracks near Howelton crossing last Saturday night about 11 p.m. Mr. Rutherford worked at the Clark & Boice Lumber Mill for years.
