Daniel Martin was on a list of Roadwork crew records @ Mason Library, Notebook of Mason Residents.
I didn't find this kind of note for Roy Lester Tartt, which would have helped to date the picture - but there he is in the photo.
Don't know if you can use this tidbit or not without the copy of the pension ap - which is somewhere in my notebooks on Martins--
1863
John Wesley Johnson fought for the Confederacy in the Civil War, in Tn & KY, in Co. A, Hamiltons Reg., & KY Cav..  He served for 6 - 9 mos. according to his account and that of Andrew Jackson Danner, on J.W. Johnson's application for a Confederate Pension in 1899.
June - October of 1899, John W. Johnson of Mason, Mason Co., TX filed for and had approved an application for a Confederate Pension. (have copy, shared by Pauline Danner Howard in Sept. of 2002 - Carol)   He stated in June or July of 1899 that he had lived in Mason County for 18 years.   Andrew Jackson Danner, son of Anna (Johnson) Danner who was a sister of John W., was a witness on this application (transcribed copy of statement in notes for Andrew).  Also a witness (no statement given) was T.J. Garner - Thomas Jefferson Garner who was maternal great grandfather of Tommy R. Martin (Andrew was his paternal g.grandfather).
Another witness was Mrs. F.E. Anderson (no statement given), who was probably John's dtr. Fatima Elizabeth Johnson Anderson.
>>>NOTE -- THERE WERE OTHER J.W. JOHNSONS IN MASON CO. DURING THE TIME THAT JOHN WESLEY JOHNSON ALSO LIVED THERE.  I have found data recorded by at least one published researcher in the Mason Co. Library in ref. to John Wesley that was NOT actually this John Wesley Johnson.  --- Carol, Sept. 2002
