Fort Mason consisted of about 1100 or 1200 acres and was never owned by the Federal government, the government leased it from individuals. The two acres of land that the restored officers quarters now sits on was donated by Mr. & Mrs. Richard P. Eckert in Memory of his Father, Lee F. Eckert to the Mason County Historical Society in 1970 and accepted by the County of Mason. The upkeep and maintenance is done by the Mason County Historical Society.   People in the community gave of their time and money to restore the officers quarters.
