Neigboring Counties
Panola county was formed in 1846 from parts of Harrison (in the north) and Shelby (in the south). Our neigbor to the west is Rusk County. Panola sits on the border between Texas and Louisiana, so our neighbors in the east are Caddo and DeSoto Parishes. Carthage is our present-day county seat and is located near to the center of the county.
