Alyssa Lizzet DeHoyos

Alyssa Lizzet DeHoyos, infant daughter of Albert and Mayra DeHoyos, died Thursday, Nov. 23, 2006. Service will be at 2 p.m. today at Iraan Christian Church with burial in Iraan Cemetery . Arrangements are by Memorial Funeral Home.

Survivors include her parents of Iraan; sisters Alexys DeHoyos, Audrey DeHoyos and America DeHoyos, all of Del Rio; and grandparents Pedro and Sonia Rios of Iraan, and Ramiro and Olivia DeHoyos of Del Rio.

John Dempsey

John Dempsey, 52, of Elm Grove, Texas, passed away Sunday, April 16, 2007 at his residence in Elm Grove. He was born July 7, 1954 in Iraan, Texas, the son of James Charles Dempsey Jr. and Johnnie Brewer Dempsey.

On August 16, 1975, John Dempsey and Leslie Sample were married in Shreveport, Texas. He was a Vestry Member at the Church of The Good Shepard and was formerly a member of the San Saba County EMS.

He is survived by his wife, Leslie Sample Dempsey of Elm Grove; three sons, Jacob Dempsey of New Orleans, Louisiana, Nathan Dempsey of Elm Grove, and Jeremiah Dempsey of Elm Grove; one daughter, Shelley Dempsey of Elm Grove; two grandchildren, Abigail Welch and Levi Welch; one brother, James Dempsey III and his wife Emily of Telephone, Texas; parents, James Charles and Johnnie Dempsey of San Angelo.

Funeral services were held Thursday, April 19, 2007 at 2:00 P.M. at the Howell-Doran Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Andrew Bradley officiating. Entombment will be at the Church of the Good Shepard. The family received friends at the funeral home, Wednesday, April 18 th , 2007, 6:00-7:00 P.M. The family requests that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society

Billy Bob Dellis

Funeral services for Billy Bob Dellis, 65, of Iraan, TX and formerly of Goldthwaite, TX and Timber Lake, SD, were held Friday, March 30, 2007 in Goldthwaite at the Stacy-Wilkins Chapel. Stewart Farrell officiated.
Interment was at the North Brown Cemetery in Mills County under the direction of Stacy-Wilkins Funeral Home.
Mr. Dellis passed away Monday, March 26, 2007 at Iraan General Hospital.

Wilbur Walton ``Bill'' Donowho

Wilbur Walton ``Bill'' Donowho, 84, a rancher and retired water well driller, died at Friday, April 25, 1997, at his residence. Services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at Mother Holmes Baptist Church in Sheffield with the Rev. Jerry Fortune and Jerry Davenport officiating. Burial will be at Sheffield Cemetery . Arrangements by Richard W. Box Funeral Home.

He was born in Hope, N.M., and was a resident of Sheffield. He was a Baptist.

SURVIVORS: Wife, Helen Donowho of Sheffield; sons, Pat Donowho of Sweetwater, Mike Donowho of El Paso, Jim Donowho of Sheffield and Joe Donowho of Youngsville, La.; daughter, Jean McMahon of Sheffield; brothers, Joe Donowho of Mount Pleasant and Dan Donowho of Dennison; sisters, Ruth Supulver of Weatherford and Opal Swin of Dennison; 12 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren

Albina C. Dominguez

Albina C. Dominguez, 86, a homemaker, of Fort Stockton died Sunday, Jan. 4, 1998, at Fort Stockton Nursing Center. Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Fort Stockton Funeral Home. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. Jim Chaumont officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery . Arrangements by Fort Stockton Funeral Home.

She was born in Shafter and had lived in Fort Stockton since 1933 after moving from Marfa. She was a Catholic.

SURVIVORS: Sons, Ricardo Carrasco, Frank Dominguez Jr., Jimmy Dominguez, Joe Dominguez, John Dominguez and Blas Dominguez, all of Fort Stockton and Luis Dominguez of Odessa; daughters, Fidela Velasquez of Kermit, Fay Carrasco of Marfa, Mary Rodriguez of Carencro, La., and Alicia Woods of Hobbs, N.M.; brother, Ventura Contreas Jr. of Copperas Cove; sisters, Suzanne Ybarra of Los Angeles and Elisa Ortez of Marathon; 38 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Lester A. Decker

Lester A. Decker, 69, of Fort Stockton, died Saturday, July 11, 1998, at his residence. Services will be held at 10 a.m. today at First Baptist Church with the Revs. Jeff Witcher and Glen Harlan officiating. Burial will be at 4 p.m. at Terry County Cemetery in Brownfield. Arrangements by Fort Stockton Funeral Home.

He was born in Hamlin and moved to Fort Stockton in 1981. He was Baptist.

Survivors: Wife, Gladys Decker of Fort Stockton; son, Danny Decker of Brownfield; daughters, Leslie Neill of Brownfield, Debbie Liles of Big Spring and Stacie Decker of Denver City; sister, Jewell Key of Abilene; and six grandchildren.

Salvador G. Duran: First FS Fatality in Vietnam

Staff Sergeant Salvador G. Duran, twenty-five years old at the time, was Fort Stockton and Pecos County's first fatality in the Vietnam conflict. Sergeant Duran died in combat on May 20, 1970 with his convoy unit, which he commanded about 50 miles north of the Demilitarized Zone.

Sergeant Duran was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Sabino and Catarina Duran. He was a member of one of the community's oldest families, his late grandfather, Pilar Duran, having been a clerk in the old Rooney Mercantile Co. here for many years dating back to 1890s.

Sergeant Duran was born in Fort Stockton on July 2, 1944. He attended lower school here. His family later moved to McCamey where he graduated from high school. He attended Sul Ross State University in Alpine and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in January 1968. He taught school in Dalhart during the spring semester of that year, and entered the army during the summer of 1968.

He was married to Teresa Carolina Molinar in Alpine July 29, 1969 and a few days later, having completed basic training was assigned to Vietnam duty. He would have been discharged 1 ? months form the time of his death.

A full military escort was provided for the burial rites at St Joseph Cemetery .

Sergeant Duran came from a family of four brothers, Sabino Duran, Fred Duran, Johnny Duran and Robert Duran and six sisters Mrs. Lucelia Ramirez, Mrs. Isabel Celeya, Mrs. Alvina Tamayo, Mrs. Eva Duran Quentilla ,Mrs. Anita Valenquela , and Mrs. Mary Helen Avita.

Clara Mae Davis

Clara Mae Davis, 67, of Iraan, a retired licensed vocational nurse, died Thursday, Jan. 22, 1999, in a McCamey Hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. today at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike Wright officiating. Burial will be at Restland Cemetery. Arrangements by Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Homes & Chapel.

She was born in Harlingen and moved to Iraan in 1971 from Odessa. She was Baptist.

SURVIVORS: Sons, James Edward Davis of Odessa, Bruce Wayne Davis of Brownwood, Glen Alan Davis and Michael Lee Davis, both of College Station; daughter, Lisa Diane Davis of Iraan; and 11 grandchildren
