Melvin E. Williams

Melvin E. Williams, 58, of Imperial, passed away Monday, Dec. 18th, 2006, in Monahans. Melvin was the beloved husband of Lynda Williams, and they were married for 35 years. Loved father of Matthew Williams of Monahans, Malcham Williams of Houston, Olivia Larman of Aubrey, Melynda Williams of Lubbock, Myranda Williams of Stephenville, and Mark Williams who is currently serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Birmingham, England. Melvin was also the Papa of nine. He spent the majority of his career working in the oil fields of West Texas and the last six years for Wal-Mart #2891.

Memorial services will be held 2pm, Friday Dec. 22nd at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Monahans. Burial services will be held at 4pm at the Imperial Cemetery . Arrangements have been made by Fort Stockton Funeral Home, where there will be a viewing on Thursday Dec. 21st from 9am to 9pm
Wanda Louise Lawler Wilson

The Bible tells us that "He that findeth a wife, findeth a good thing." Wanda was the loving wife of Paul and mother of Phyllis Williams, William "Bill" Wilson, Paul Wilson, Jr., Carl Wilson, and Carla Claburn. She was the grandmother of Emily Williams, Lauren Dillard, William Dillard, Theo Wilson, Rachel Wilson, Bryan Ortega, Jonathan Wilson, Michael Claburn, Jr., Tarin Claburn and great grandmother to Johnny Dillard.

Wanda passed into her heavenly father's arms on September 25, 2006.

She was born on October 12, 1942 to Royce and Edith Lawler in San Angelo. She attended school at San Angelo Central High and graduated from Iraan High. She married her one love, Paul on May 1, 1961. She was a devoted homemaker, sister to Julia Lawler and daughter. She gave of herself unconditionally to her family, friends, those in need and thought of others without thought of her own needs. She was a living example of loving your neighbor as you love yourself.

Graveside services will be held at the Iraan Cemetery on Friday, September 29 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Mike Wright officiating. Services are under direction of Shaffer Funeral Home.

She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Mom-we love you and will miss you!!!

Christina Elizabeth Smith Weddle
MONAHANS Christina Elizabeth Smith Weddle, age 38, of Fort Stockton, Texas, was called to heaven on Monday, March 26, 2007, from the residence of her parents, Richard and Josephine Smith of Monahans. She was born on December 8, 1968, in Fort Worth, Texas. She was self-employed and wore many hats in her Cingular Store and at American Energy and Equipment Rental.
Christie, taken from us too soon, is now in the arms of our Lord and Savior. In the thirteen years or so that she fought cancer, she taught us the true meaning of courage, love and family. Christie was and will continue to be an inspiration to everyone who knew and loved her. She was not a quitter-she is simply our hero. She loved life, her family and her friends. Through all the pain and suffering, she worked non-stop to make sure each and everyone felt special. Some of her last days were spent with family and friends gathered around celebrating her life and trying to return just a small amount of the love that she has so generously given and continues to give. God has definitely blessed us.

She is survived by her husband, Garry Weddle of Ft. Stockton; her parents, Richard and Josephine Smith of Monahans; her son, Justin Smith of Santa Fe, New Mexico; 5 sisters, Sabra Miller and husband Doug of Monahans, Julie James of Keller, Pam Rogers and husband Greg of Wink, Mary Nall and husband Bruce of Farmington, New Mexico, and Heather Collins and husband Larry of Katy; 2 brothers, Allen Smith of Monahans and Jeff Smith and wife Ginger of The Woodlands; 1 brother-in-law and spouse, Terry and Dee Weddle of Midland; 1 sister-in-law, Laura Weddle of Midland; mother-in-law, Shirley Weddle of Ft. Stockton; beloved adopted family, Riley James, Ryan James, Sagen James and Nita and Kerry Fisher; 24 nieces and nephews and a great niece and nephew; and an enormous amount of extended family and friends. She also left behind her beloved Shih-Tzu baby, Isabella and her Mastiff, Amber. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Gaylord and Dean Smith and Wesley and Mary Kinsey; father-in-law, Durland Weddle; and her nephew, Arnold Nall.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Harkey Family Funeral Services in Monahans. Services will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, March 29, 2007, at First Baptist Church in Monahans with Reverend Jeppie Wilson officiating. She will be laid to rest at East Hill Cemetery in Ft. Stockton.

Pallbearers will be Allen Smith, Jeff Smith, Sabra Miller, Julie James, Pam Rogers, Ginger Smith, Mary Nall, Heather Collins, Dee Weddle, Laura Weddle, Jennifer Peterson, Nita Fisher, Janice Mosig, Jeri Ann McGowan, and Annabelle Doran. Honorary Pallbearers will be Craig Moore, Tommy Moore, Kerry Fisher, Casey Doran, Matt Gomez, Chris Janek, Willie Stoner, Scott Turner and J.T. Harbour. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the West Texas Boys Ranch or Odyssey Hospice in Odessa. The family and Christie wish to thank everyone for their heartfelt prayers and inspiration during her illness. How blessed we all are to have received her love and have loved her.

Richard Franklin White

Richard Franklin White, 90, of Odessa, a retired heavy equipment operator, died Wednesday, March 6, 2002, in Odessa. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at First United Pentecostal Church with the Rev. Terry Pugh officiating. Burial will be at the Iraan Cemetery in Iraan. Arrangements by Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. He was born in Trickham. He was Pentecostal. SURVIVORS: Sons, Richard Wayne White and Billy J. White, both of McCamey, Weldon Thomas White of Henderson, Travis B. White of Midland and Ronnie D. White of Odessa; numerous grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

Elizabeth Ann Reeves Warnock

Elizabeth Ann Reeves Warnock, 76, passed softly from us on the morning of Monday, March 19, 2007. Elizabeth was born on Feb. 27, 1931, to Sim A. Reeves Sr. and Lillian Miers Reeves in Balmorhea, Texas. Elizabeth married H. Clay “Sonny” Warnock on Aug. 24, 1949, in Sanderson, Texas, and would have been married 58 years this August.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and one sister, Mary Frances Reeves Walker.

Elizabeth, Sonny and Seth operated the Warnock Dairy for over 30 years in Fort Stockton. Sonny and Elizabeth had a devoted marriage and shared time ranching and enjoyed working together at the ranch and the dairy. Elizabeth was active in the First Baptist Church of Fort Stockton for many years. She participated in all activities for her children including 4-H Club, school functions, and Girl Scouts, for which she was awarded a lifetime membership. Elizabeth was a very special woman, who touched many people’s lives with her kind words, and compassionate, positive, never-quit attitude.

Survivors include her husband, Sonny Warnock of Fort Stockton; Gwen Warnock Grigsby and husband Tony Grigsby of Round Rock, Texas, Ann Warnock Moseley and husband Randy of Mertzon, Texas, and Seth Clay Warnock and wife Bonnie Jean Cox Warnock of Fort Stockton; grandchildren Megan Grigsby and Kelly Grigsby of Round Rock, Texas, Lynn Moseley Parker and husband Bill of Crowley, Texas, and Sarah Moseley Massey and husband Jason of Blum, Texas; and two great-granddaughters, Abbigail and Allison Massey of Blum, Texas; and one brother, Sim A. Reeves Jr. and wife Ruthie of Corpus Christi, Texas

Service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 21, at Fort Stockton Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be James Stone, Roger Puckett, Eddie Pfiester, Sam Pfiester, Don Pfiester and Billy Siler.

Elizabeth Warnock, Fort Stockton Elizabeth Ann Reeves Warnock, Fort Stockton, died the morning of March 19, 2007. She was 76 years old.

William Steven Whitley

William Steven Whitley, 62, died Thursday, January 19, 2006 , at his home in Abilene, following a short illness. A memorial service is tentatively scheduled for Saturday at the University Church of Christ in Abilene . , Whitley was the son of Jack and Christine Whitley. He graduated from Iraan High School, received his BS from Abilene Christian College and his MS from American Technical University. After graduating from the Abilene Police Academy, he served in various aspects of law enforcement in Abilene, Mesquite , Iraan , Austin and Alpine, as well as a tour of duty as a CID officer in the Army from 1969 to 1971. He ended his career as sheriff of Brewster County in 2000. He was a member of the University Church of Christ in Abilene. He married Janet Berry in Littleton, Colo. , on June 7, 1968 . and Lalo and Shiloh Whitley of Cody; and his parents, Jack and Christine Whitley of Abilene

Dorothy Gray Watts , 85, Woodland, California

Surrounded by her entire family Dorothy Gray Watts, 85, died peacefully in her home in Woodland, California, Thursday, June 8, 2006.

Dorothy was born in Cherokee, Iowa, December 17, 1920 to Florence Abigail and Richard Harper Gray. At age three and a half she moved with her family to Fort Stockton, where she attended elementary and high schools. Dorothy was valedictorian of her high school class and at the age of 16 began her studies at the University of Texas where she graduated with a BA degree in English. Earning her teaching credential from the state of Texas, she taught elementary school in Grandfalls. She also taught English as a second language to Spanish speaking elementary students.

She met her husband of 64 years, Milton Watts at the Army Air Corps flight school in Fort Stockton, where Milton was a flight instructor. They were married in Fort Stockton on August 21, 1942. After moving to Woodland, Dorothy was an essential participant in what became Watts Agriculture Aviation. Milton and Dorothy became owners of Watts Airport in 1952. What is now, Watts Woodland Airport, was founded by the Yolo Fliers Club in 1919. It is one of the oldest operating privately owned, public use airports in the US. Milton and Dorothy subsequently founded Woodland Aviation in 1963.

Dorothy was active in the Woodland community. She was a lifetime member of several organizations, including PEO sorority, and Woodland Shakespeare Club, as well as Woodland Women'/s Club. She participated in the School Board of Plainfield school. She was also an active participant in both the Woodland Methodist Church and the Woodland Presbyterian Church. Chair of the design and construction committee for the Woodland Presbyterian church. She arranged for and provided the faceted glass windows, dedicated her sister Dr. Lois Gray Floyd, a research anthropologist and sociologist, author and long time professor at Montclair State University in New Jersey.

Dorothy enjoyed travel with her husband and family throughout the US, Canada and Mexico as well as South America. She also enjoyed music, regularly attended the San Francisco Symphony and found pleasure in painting water colors and reading mystery novels.

She is survived by husband Milton B. Watts, her sons and their families: Steven G. Watts and Felicia Knippa, MBruce Watts, Stacey Shols Watts and granddaughter Calista Watts, all of Woodland, also nephew Richard Gray of Texas.

She was preceded in death by her daughter Lois Carol Watts who died in January 1989, a sister Lois Gray Floyd, brothers Dexter, Richard, Jabez , Max and her parents.

A memorial service is planned Friday, June 16 at Woodland Methodist Church at 2 p.m. The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorials in Mrs. Watts' name be directed to Woodland Methodist Church, Yolo Hospice or the charity of your choice.

William Westerman , 76, Albuquerque, N. M.

William "Bill" W. Westerman, 76, Albuquerque, N. M. died Thursday, March 2, 2006. Born November 22, 1929 at Fort Stockton, he was the son of Walter and Anne McKenzie Westerman. Bill was a 1947 graduate of Fort Stockton High School. He graduated from Sul Ross State College in 1951. He retired from Burroughs Corp after 35 years. A lover of the outdoors, Bill enjoyed photography, and playing bridge. A long time Boy Scout volunteer, Bill also volunteered in recent years working to clear and maintain trails on public lands for New Mexico Volunteers for the Outdoors.

Bill and Nell Linda Johnson were united in marriage March 26, 1955. She preceded him in death, after 43 years of marriage, in 1998. Also preceding Bill in death was: his sister, Betty Daniel and her husband, Frank; and brother-in- law, Jack Smithson.

He is survived by: his daughter, Linda W. Peterson and her husband, Duane Peterson, Colorado Springs, Colo.; his sons, Bruce Westerman and his wife Gayle, Wylie; Blake Westerman, Franklin, Mass., Wayne Westerman and his fiancée Jean Johnson, Albuquerque, N. M.; his sister, Marie Smithson, Iraan; and his brother-in-law Roy E. Johnson and his wife Carol, Indianapolis, Ind. Also surviving Bill is: his granddaughters, Kristy Marie Peterson, Denver, Colo., Audrey Anne Westerman and Kassandra "Kassy" Elizabeth Westerman, both of Wylie; his grandsons, Joshua Klein and his wife Meiling, and Trevor Westerman, all of Albuquerque, N.M.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A gathering of family and friends took place at the family home in Albuquerque Sunday, March 5, 2006. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, March 8 at 11 a.m. in East Hill Cemetery , Fort Stockton followed by a luncheon at the First Presbyterian Church. Virginia M. Williams

Virginia M. Williams, 94, died February 20, 2006 at Fort Stockton. Born July 3, 1911, at Cold Springs, Ken. Virginia had lived in Fort Stockton since 1938. Virginia was united in marriage to Bill Williams October 3, 1926 at El Paso. A retired secretary and county extension services agent, Virginia was very active in the community.

She is survived by: her niece, Vivian Reilly, Boston, Mass.; her sister Dorothy Fee, Dayton, Ohio. Several nieces and nephews also survive Virginia.

Viewing will be during regular business hours at the Fort Stockton Funeral Home, 8 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. until the day of the funeral. Graveside services will be held Monday, February 27 at 11 a.m. at East Hill Cemetery , Fort Stockton. Reverend Dr. Jim Miles will officiate. Michael Fincher Williams

Michael Fincher Williams, Fort Stockton, died Tuesday, May 2, 2007 in Fort Stockton. He was 61 years old. Michael was born August 27, 1945 in Fort Stockton. Michael was the son of Garland Fincher and Ernestine Morgan Williams. He was married to Mary Ogle Bickle July 15,2005 in Fort Stockton. Michael was a club member of FFA and Eagles.

He was preceded in death by his father Garland Williams and his grandparents Myrtle Cunningham, O.D. Williams, Hiram and Katie Morgan.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ogle Williams, Fort Stockton; three sons, David and wife Dina Williams, Monahans; James Ogle, Austin and Thomas Ogle, Atlanta, GA; two daughters, Michelle Williams Cope, Garland and Cynthia Gillette, Odessa; his mother, Ernestine Williams, El Paso; his sister, Pattie and husband John Franklin, El Paso; grandchildren, Myranda Williams, Garland; April Williams and Kailey Williams, both of Monahans; Andre Gilette, Tailyn Gillette, Karson Thompson, all from Odessa; Christian Ogle and Trinity Ogle both from Atlanta, GA; nieces, Ashlee Gaines, Dallad; Shannon and husband Sean McKenna, Lubbock and his great niece, Erin McKenna, Lubbock.

Memorial service will be Saturday, May 5 at the First Baptist Church at 2 p.m. in Fort Stockton. Arrangements are by Memorial Funeral Home

John David Wilson

John David Wilson, 31, died Wednesday, December 28, 2005 in Fort Stockton. Born December 18, 1974, in Fort Stockton, he was the son of Clay Bruce and Judith Ann (Pounds) Wilson. He was preceded in death by: his father, Clay B. Wilson; and his grandfather, O.R. "Buck" Wilson.

Surviving are: his mothers, Judy Wilson, Fort Stockton; and Ann Scofield, Milliken, Colo.; his brothers, John Bruce, Carrollton, David Clay, Katy, and Jeremy Templeton, Midland; his sisters, Taleen Carpenter, Apache Junction, Ariz. and Kristina Early, Milliken, Colo.; his grandparents, Mareda Wilson, Hope, N.M., and Richard and Dixie Stahl, Bullhead City, Ariz. He is also survived by nephews, Alec Embres, Milliken, Colo., Michael Carpenter and Tyler Carpenter, both of Apache Junction, Ariz.; and nieces Bayley Templeton, Midland, Crystal Wilson, Carrollton, Amanda Wilson, Katy and Mikayla Early, Milliken, Colo.,

Burch Woodward

Burch Woodward, 80, longtime rancher in Pecos and Terrell Counties, passed away Thursday, Nov. 22, 2001. Service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 25, 2001 at the First Christian Church of Fort Stockton with the Rev. Ernie Waggoner officiating, assisted by the Rev. Clint Lannom.

Burch was born Dec. 11, 1920, in Fort Stockton to Fonnie and Emma Gay Woodward. At the time, his parents worked on the Elsinore Ranch near Hovey. He and his brother, Louis were home schooled by their mother for several years. Later he attended public schools in Sanderson and Girvin, and graduated as valedictorian of McCamey High School in 1938. After high school, Burch worked for the West Pyle Cattle Company for several years.

With the outbreak of World War II, he enlisted in the Army Air Corp on Jan. 7, 1942. He served in the Pacific and European Theaters. While stationed at Malta, his aircraft was shot down over Sicily. He and the navigator walked out through enemy lines dressed as local peasants. Burch was honorably discharged from the service in Oct. 1945 and returned to West Texas to join his father and brother in the ranching business.

On Sept. 26, 1946, Burch married Laverne Pounds in Midland. They lived on the Blackstone-Slaughter Ranch in Terrell County near Sheffield for several years and later moved to the Woodward ranch near Girvin. In Dec. 1958, the family moved to the headquarters ranch east of Fort Stockton. Burch and his son Neill were partners in the ranching industry in Pecos and Terrell Counties as Burch and Neill Livestock Company.

Burch was a lifetime member and director of the Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers Association, a Director of Wool Growers Central Storage, Farm Bureau and numerous other ranching entities. He was a member of the First Christian Church.

Survivors include his daughter, Loraine Lannom and husband, Donald, of Fort Stockton; his son, Neill Woodward, and wife, Jane E., of Fort Stockton; and his brother, Louis and wife, Eddie Mae, of Girvin. Also surviving are five grandsons, two granddaughters and seven great-grandchildren.

Burch was preceded in death by his wife, Laverne in July 1994; his father in Feb. 1960; and his mother in Sept. 1976.

Pallbearers will be Jeremy McCollom, Clint Lannom, Keynon Lannom, Paul Long, Shane Woodward and Steve Eustis. Honorary Pallbearers will be West Texas area ranch family.

Sue Montgomery Walker

Sue Montgomery Walker passed away peacefully Oct. 17, 2000. Sue was born Oct. 18, 1909, in San Angelo. She was the second of four daughters born to Joe and Pearl Montgomery, a pioneer Pecos County ranching family.

She spent her early years on the ranch. The family eventually moved to Fort Stockton in order for Sue and her sisters to attend the public schools. She graduated from Fort Stockton High School and attended Texas Christian University in Fort Worth before returning to Fort Stockton. On April 12, 1932, she married Homer Walker of San Antonio in Fort Stockton. Homer worked in the Pecos County State Bank for several years before devoting full time to the ranching business, which is still in operation. Homer predeceased her Nov. 9, 1977. Sue was involved in all aspects of life in Fort Stockton where she resided for nearly 90 years. She was active in the First Christian Church where she was a member for seventy years. She was a member of Magno Usui Study Club, Pioneer Club, Tuesday Club and many other organizations.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Pearl Montgomery; her husband, Homer Walker; and her sisters, Louise Montgomery Fulk, Jo Ann Montgomery Moore and Peggy Montgomery Brooks.

She is survived by her daughter, Charlotte Furman and husband Mike of Odessa; three grandchildren, Scott Furman and wife Kenda of Fort Stockton, Susan Furman of Denver and Stacy Zipkes and husband Steve of Marfa. She is also survived by four great-grandchildren, Lynzi and Madison Furman and Logan and Matthew Zipkes. Additional survivors include her sister-in-law, Marjorie Butz of Buchanan Dam; brother-in-law, Wayne Moore of Midland; four nieces; five nephews; and devoted friend Elida Rodriquez.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20, 2000, at First Christian Church in Fort Stockton. Interment will follow at Easthill Cemetery . Arrangements by Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors. If desired, memorials may be made to First Christian Church of Fort Stockton.

George L. ``Charlie'' Wells Sr .

George L. ``Charlie'' Wells Sr., 68, a ranch foreman, died Monday, May 19, 1997, at his residence. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at East Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Chris Gilmer officiating. Arrangements by Fort Stockton Funeral Home.

He was born in Crews-Runnels County and moved to Fort Stockton 40 years ago from Sheffield.

Mary E. "Ella" Whittenburg

Mary E. "Ella" Whittenburg, 85, of Fort Stockton, a homemaker, died Monday, Feb. 2, 1998, at Pecos County Memorial Hospital. Services will be held at 4 p.m. today at the Church of Christ with Harold Durham officiating. Burial will be at East Hill Cemetery . Arrangements by Fort Stockton Funeral Home.

She was born in Andrews and had lived in Fort Stockton since 1957. She was a member of the Church of Christ.

A.J. Woods, 77, of Van Horn, a retired construction heavy equipment operator, died Thursday, Feb. 5, 1998, in Fort Stockton. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Arrangments by Fort Stockton Funeral Home.

He was born in Ritaway and was a lifelong resident of Van Horn. He was an Army veteran and Baptist.

Nicky Hahn ODESSA -- Nicky Dewain Hahn, 61, of Odessa died Friday, Feb. 6, 1998, at Medical Center Hospital. Services are pending under the direction of Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

Myrtle B. Walters

Myrtle B. Walters, 81, of Fort Stockton, a retired waitress, died Sunday, Aug. 23, 1998, in Crane. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at East Hill Cemetery with Harold Durham officiating. Arrangements by Fort Stockton Funeral Home.

She was born in Big Bend and moved to Fort Stockton in 1933 from Ozona. She was a member of the Church of Christ.

Bud Wilhelm

Bud Wilhelm, 68, of Grandfalls, an oilfield pumper, died Monday, Oct. 19, 1998, in Grandfalls. Services will be held at 2 p.m. at Imperial Community Center with the Rev. David Brockman officiating. Burial will be at Imperial Cemetery . Arrangements by Harkey Funeral Home.

He was born in Ranger. He was Baptist.

Edgar "Ed" Wood Jr.

Edgar "Ed" Wood Jr., 74, of Fort Stockton, retired manager of an oil supply company, died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 1998, in San Angelo. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Fort Stockton Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. A.D. Jackson officiating. Burial will be at East Hill Cemetery . Arrangements by Fort Stockton Funeral Home.

He was born in Fort Worth and had lived in Fort Stockton since 1977, when he moved from Hobbs, N.M. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

Jeff Barnes Wade

Services were held for Jeff B. Wade, 93, of Fort Stockton, brother of Willie White of Monahans, were held Monday, April 14, 1983 in Fort Stockton Funeral Home. Burial was in the Alpine Cemetery with Rev. O. A. McBrayer officiating.

Mr. Wade died April 9, 1983 at the Comanche View Nursing Home in Fort Stockton. He was born Nov. 5, 1889 in Bosque County. He moved to Fort Stockton from Alpine 50 years ago. He was a World War I veteran and a member of the Alpine Masonic Lodge No. 766 for 73 years. He was a member of the Fort Stockton Historical Society.

Other survivors include his wife, Euna Wade of Fort Stockton; four other sisters, Electra Wade of Alpine, Jimmy Marler of Andrews, Cecil Blackburn of Grand Prarie and Betty Lou Metcalf of Whitney; and numerous nephews and nieces. Funeral arrangements were directed by Fort Stockton Funeral Home.
