Garrett Cemetery, 6 Jul
1863,"This cemetery is located in the southeast quadrant
of Red River County, Texas. GPS COORDINATES: Datum WGS84: 33
Deg 31.285N, 94 Deg 51.920W, El 419 ft. From Annona take FM 44
south for 4.1 miles to the intersection with FM 1701. Take FM
1701 east for 2 miles to the intersection with CR 4405. Take
CR 4405 south for 1.3 miles to the John Garrett place which is
on the right. The cemetery is in the pasture about 2/10 mile
west of the house. Please do not enter without permission from
the landowner. This land has been known as 'the old English place'
or plantation and states such on the abstracts. There are four
graves here and possibly more but only one marker. We visited
the site on 12 Jan 2004 and took the GPS readings and photographed
the area. Had a real nice conversation about the lore of the
place. Marker reads as follows: James G. English, Feb. 1801 to
6 Jul 1863, his daughter Sarah and grandchildren Walter and Anna
Beaty."
