Macedonia Syloam B Cemetery, 1886,"This cemetery is located in the northwest quadrant of Red River County, Texas. GPS COORDINATES: Datum WGS84: 33 Deg 40.836N, 95 Deg 05.468W. From Hwy 37 north of Clarksville, take FM 2283 west for a short 1/2 mile to the intersection with CR 2124. Take CR 2124 north 1.4 miles and the cemetery is on the left just after you make a hard left turn in the road. This is a black cemetery and is shown on the state maps as Mt. Zion Cemetery. Lore says that this was a slave cemetery and there are indications that there have been many burials there. Sadly, most were never marked and much damage has been done here by logging operations in the past. This is located on the Josiah Perry survey and so far we have not found a deed record for it. The oldest marked burial is that of Mary Darnell who died in 1886. This cemetery was surveyed by Lawrence and Sue Dale on 9 Feb 1999. We were again at this cemetery to get the GPS Coordinates on 29 Jan 2003 and are happy to report that the cemetery has a new chain link fence around it. Such is progress. We also did a re walk of the cemetery adding new burials and noting marker changes."
