Walker Cemetery, 13 Aug
1872 ,"This cemetery is located in the southeast quadrant
of Red River County, Texas. GPS COORDINATES: Datum WGS84: 33
Deg 28.701N, 94 Deg 45.845W, El 452 ft. From Avery take FM 911
south for 6.4 miles to the intersection with CR 4530, take CR
4530 east or left for 8/10 miles and in the middle of a sharp
curve to the left, stop. The cemetery is on the north or left
through a pasture and down the slope towards a creek about 150
yards and is on the Jesse Walker survey. A local resident has
spent many years on research in this area, Mrs. Rose Parks, Rt
1 Box 119B, Avery TX 75554, phone 903 684 3263. The oldest marked
burial is that of John H. Elder who died on 13 Aug 1872. There
are also 6 markers for unidentified infants and a footstone for
an Essie Wise (just the initials E. W.) This cemetery was surveyed
by Lawrence and Sue Dale on 24 Feb 1999. On 3 Feb 2003 we visited
the site and clambored through the thorns and briars to get to
this resting place. While there we took the GPS Coordinates."
