Wish to locate research material of Edna Moore HOWISON (1895-1979) of Bogata, TX. She was the d/o Neil M. HOWISON and Mary F. CLATTERBUCK and a descendant of the McGILL family of Cumberland Co., NC; Giles Co., TN (1810s); Franklin Co., AL (1820s); Lafayette & Calhoun cos., MS (1830s-1850s); and Red River County (1860s+). In a letter dated 20 Nov 1958, Edna referred to the late Mrs. Martha Davis Lucas of Sherman, TX, who "gathered quite a lot of material on the McGILL family, but it was never published." Mrs. LUCAS sent a copy of her material to Miss Sallie HOWISON about 1922, and it was in Edna's possession in 1958. Edna never married, so I have no idea where this material is now (assuming it still exists). Any help appreciated. Thanks!

NOTES This letter was sent to me by one of my Jones cousins. On our grandmothers side of the family. Mattie Elizibeth Jones, Doss is our grandmother. DELLA COKER JONES DELLA COKER was born in the state of Mississippi on June 21, 1866. Berry COKER was her father and she had a brother by the name of George Washington (Wash) COKER, and a uncle, brother of Berry, By the name of John COKER. Berry was of a fair complexion, Probably irish, The COKER family was first found in the territory of Oklahoma on the North side of the Canadian River, could be near Purcell, Okla. Della married Roland Mcdonald JONES on January 3, 1881 at the age of fourteen. Three children were born to this union; Eva, born October 22, 1883; Mattie, born April 21, 1889; and Berry Gardner (Gard), born Sept. 30, 1891. B.G. JONES stated that he was born in Purcell, Choctaw Nation, I. T. of Oklahoma, But at an early age the family moved to Coalgatae where Pa, father of B. G. worked on the Road, probably employed in the building of a railroad. In 1898, when B.G. was six or seven , Della and R.M. decided on a move to Clearwater, Near Winnsboro, Texas. I think that some of the Paynes and Cokers were living around this vicinity. They were relatives. The Jones family crossed the Red River at the Slate Shoals Ford, southeast of Fort Towson, Oklahoma. Then Followed the road to the Manchester Community, Located about fifteen miles north and a little west of Clarksville, Texas. Grandmother Della became sick, Medical treatment was not available and the Hard life of living in a wagon resulted in her death. She was buried at the Mt. Tugle cemetery, Which today is called the Tuggle-Springs cemetery. A marker was never placed at the burial site of Della Jones and the exact location is unknown. The cemetery is a well kept rural burial ground situated upon a little hill overlooking a wooded country side. The location is four to five miles southeast of Manchester, Texas . On F.M. 2118. If you are traveling from Clarksville, Texas. Take highway 37 North for about ten miles, then turn left on F.M. 2118 for three to four miles, The cemetery is located on the North side of the road. There is a large overhead sign marking the location of the cemetery. I plan to place a small marker at the cemetery if the association will allow me to do so. Prepared by: Bill J. Jones February 1987
