History of Blackland Cemetery
William and Cassandra Hunt Harvey began purchasing land in the northern Blackland Community of Kaufman County on September 8, 1866. George V. Bost purchased adjoining property on November 1, 1877. On August 12, 1882, William and Cassandra donated property to the Blackland Community for the use as a school, church and for burial purposes. The donated property joined the George V. Bost family cemetery and the entire burial ground was named the Blackland Cemetery. On August 30, 1906, the surviving Harvey children sold additional property north of the cemetery to the Methodist Church South. Trustees for the church were G. V. Bost and W. F. Barringer.
