Ottis B. Jacobs, Jr., 85, died Saturday, December 29, 2001, in a local hospital.

O. B. was born in Rockwall, Texas on March 11, 1916, the first child of Otis and Mattie Jacobs.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Otis B. Jacobs, Sr. and Mattie Walker Jacobs, his wife, Mary Vivian Jacobs; brothers, Willie Langston Jacobs and Jack Jacobs; and a sister, Mary Brod.

He is survived by his sons, John Jacobs and wife, Jeannette of Robert Lee and Jim Jacobs and wife, Valerie of Deer Park; four grandchildren, Richard Jacobs and wife, Kim of Bronte, Jim Bob Jacobs and wife, Rhonda of Houston, Chad Jacobs and wife, Nikki of Pasadena and Carrie Jacobs of Deer Park; four great-grandchildren, Brady Jacobs, Blaine Jacobs, Justin Jacobs, and Emily Jacobs; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

O. B. and Vivian were married July 1, 1939, in Abilene, Texas. In 1942, he was one of the first Coke County married men drafted into World War II, serving in North Africa and Italy. Since his Army days, O. B. has been a Duputy Sheriff of Coke County, a roughneck, a rancher, and retired as Coke County Tax Assessor Collector in 1985.

He was a Methodist and belonged to the First United Methodist Church in Robert Lee. He was a 50 year plus active member of the Hayrick Masonic Lodge #696 and a member of the Robert Lee Eastern Star.

Services were held on Monday, December 31, 2001, at 2:00 pm at the First United Methodist Church in Robert Lee. Burial followed in the Robert Lee Cemetery. Pall Bearers were Wayland Drennan, Billy Wayne Roe, Jay Service, Joe David Key, Donnie Robertson, and Jimmy Bell. Honorary pallbearer was Weldon Fikes.
