CARY COBB


Cary Cobb was born 1 Nov 1812 in NC. He removed to MS by the early 1830's and married at Warsaw, Benton Co MS on 6 APr 1843 to Sarah Elizabeth Cocke, who was born 22 Aug 1824 in VA.

Immediately the couple started for the Republic of Texas, arriving in 1844. Cobb was Granted 2 land surveys - for 320 acres each - on Rush Creek, Henderson Co TX - now ROckwall County. His land and adjoined that of John O. Heath.

Cobb was appointed first Chief Justice of Kaufman Co in 1848 & waS Elected to same office for 2 more terms.

He and Elizabeth had 3 daughters: Lucinda Almeda, Mary Louise "Mollie", & Virginia Vashti.

Lucinda married W. B. Wade.
Mollie married Joseph Dameron Cunningham.
Vashti never married.

Cary Cobb & daughter, Vashti, both died on 12 Mar 1865 during a smallpox epidemic. Sarah Elizabeth died 1877.
