Isaac Briscoe


Isaac was born 09 Sep 1788 in Virginia and died in Kaufman Co TX 12 Feb 1864. He is buried at Pleasant Springs Cemetery (also known as Willow Springs) located south of Heath in Rockwall County.

He married Hester "Hettie" Kyle on 03 Mar 1811 in Hawkins Co TN. She was born 11 Sep 1796 in VA and died in Forney, TX on 21 May 1867. She is buried beside Isaac.

Sometime around 1830 Isaac moved his family from Hawkins Co TN to Greene Co MO. By 1845 he had moved his family from MO to Texas, one of the first families to live in what is now Rockwall County.

From Kaufman County History, Vol I, page 15: "Dr J B Daniels, a circuit riding preacher stated in his memoirs that in 1855 J J Butler, J W Brice & Thomas Briscoe filed a petition for a charter."

This would have been for the Salem Baptist Church - the first church in Poetry Texas, located at a site not far from where the Briscoe family lived in Kaufman County, before the area was made Rockwall County.
