A.A.Gardner,65,a resident of Odessa,died at 7p.m.Sunday in the Medical
Center Hospital in Odessa,where he was hospitalized after suffering a
stroke Nov.8. Born Dec.8,1894 in Purdon,he was married to the former
EMMA ATKINSON of Comanche in 1910. Then the couple came to Woodson
where they farmed for 42 years. They moved to Odessa five years ago
after Mr.Gardner retired. He was a member of the Church of Christ of
Woodson.Funeral was to be held at the Woodson Church of Christ Tuesday
at 2p.m.,with George Sullivan minister,officiating. Burial will be at
Woodson Cemetery under direction of Melton Funeral Home of
Breckenridge. Survivors are his wife;one daughter,Mrs.NITA HURFORD of
Woodson;two sons,ALBERT J.of Odessa and DOUGLAS A.of Hobbs,N.M.;two

married SID GILBREATH in May 1948 in Breckenridge. He preceded her in
death on July 22,1980. She moved to Seguin in 1995 from Woodson. She
had owned a drug store in Woodson and had worked as a police
dispatcher in Throckmorton. She was a member of the First Baptist
Church in Woodson and had been the secretary for the Woodson Volunteer
Fire Department. She is survived by two daughters,SHARON LEAH

Chester Darrell Good,of Woodson,died Saturday,Nov.3,2001,in Stephens
Memorial Hospital in Breckenridge,at the age of 83 years,6 months and
nine days. Funeral services were held at 2p.m.Monday,Nov.5,at
Melton-Kitchens Funeral Chapel in Breckenridge,with Bro.Merv
Buffington,Bro.Dee Tate and Bro.J.F.Lilly officiating,under the
direction of Merriman-Archer Funeral Home of Throckmorton. Darrell
was born April 25,1918,in Carrollton,to JOHN HENRY and ABBIE(VANN)GOOD.
His father owned and operated the Ice Plant in Woodson.He was assisted
by his sons,D.E.and DARRELL. He worked hard and long hours to keep the
plant running and to make deliveries to Woodson and rural areas. He
attended school in Woodson and Breckenridge.He graduated from
Breckenridge High School in 1937. DARRELL and DOVIE BLUDWORTH were
married on March 25,1939 in Breckenridge. He worked for Humble
(later named Exxon)Oil Company for 29 years. He was a First Class
Maintenance employee for Humble before retiring in July,1980. Darrell
and Dovie moved to Woodson from Perryton in 1980. He was a member of
the Church of Christ for 45 years. He was a member of the Eastside
Church of Christ in Woodson. Mr.Good is survived by his wife,DOVIE
GOOD of Woodson;one daughter,ELWANNA and her husband JERRY HEFLIN of
Midland;one son,RONNIE GOOD and his wife JOAN of Edmond,Okla.;a sister,
THELMA LANCASTER of Austin;six grandchildren and 13
great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents;two
sisters,LOIS ELLIS in 1993 and ROSETTA LITTLE in 1940;and a brother,

ice buisness for several years.He married MAURINE FOSTER in Woodson on
June 3,1933.He later owned and operated Good Food Mart in Woodson from
1949 until 1976. He and his wife moved to College Station in 1983. He
received his education in Carrollton and Lockney and attended Texas
A&M University. He served in the U.S.Army from 1941 until 1945,part of
that time in the European Theatre. He is survived by his wife,MAURINE
GOOD of College Station;two children,BARRY GOOD and TANA MCCOY of
College Station;and DONNA and MARSHALL SEYMOUR of Anderson;one brother,
DARRELL GOOD and his wife DOVIE of Woodson;one sister,THELMA LANCASTER
of Austin;five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

23,1904 in Hurst Springs,Coryell County,Texas to TOM(TJ)and LULA
BRADY LATHAM,she was the first born of nine children. Texas was her
lifelong residence. In 1907 her family traveled by covered wagon to
Throckmorton County. Maude remembered the always-lit latern swinging
back and forth,night and day,in the top of the wagon to keep her baby
brother,J.D.warm. Maude waited to start first grade until her one year
younger sister,VELMA,could go too. Since their father wanted his
children to be near,he dedicated part of his land for school use. It
was called Master/Pleasant Hill School and initially had one teacher
for all grades. Her father was a "pretty firm" man.Maude's mother was
of Irish heritage and a lot more relaxed. "Mama" was a contented
full-time homemaker raising eight children,(and at times raising
grandchildren)and always a hard-working farm wife her entire life.
Maude remembered being baptized,with VELMA,in a large stock tank,when
she was about 12. She rode in her first car at the age of 10.As young
adults,she and VELMA were sent to Gunter Bible College(North of
Ft.Worth),where they boarded. There she met another student RICHARD
HOOTEN,and married him in 1924. He needed and accepted a teaching
position in a rural school and,as a new bride,she was expected to
follow him,and she did,but as a subordinate teacher at lower pay. When
her marriage became unworkable,she took full responsibility for her
two pre-teen children,borrowed tuition from her parents and returned
to Texas Tech to complete her Bachelor's degree in Home Economics
Education and later earned a Master's degree from Texas Woman's
University with a major in Clothing & Textiles. For over thirty-five
years,she was an active teacher in primary education and later was a
teacher of adult students. She taught the classes that women really
wanted,which made for a diverse class schedule and sometimes
necessitated her learning "just ahead of or at the same time as" her
students. She was a very loving woman,not in the physical sense,but in
the caring sense. Her family was the center of her life,and she did
well by them.They and her church always came before business. A
constant participant in the Church of Christ,she greatly enjoyed
singing the hymns with a strong,warm rich voice. She was responsible,
tenacious,intelligent,and enormously energetic despite the ravages of
Alzheimers.She is survived by her daughter,EXA FAY HOOTEN of Abilene;
her son,ALTON R.HOOTEN and wife MARGARET of Portland,Oregon;two
sisters,Mrs.SYBIL WOODWARD,of Breckenridge and Mrs.NELDA DUKES of
Allison;five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Memorials may
be made to donor's favorite charity and may be left at Melton's
Funeral Home.

Wichita Falls,in Woodson. Rev.Henry Sallery,pastor of First United
Methodist Church of Woodson,officiated. Horton was born March 23,1904,
in Hunt County,Tex.,and retired in 1969 as assistant manager after 28
years with the Wichita Falls Production Credit Association. He was
associated for 18 years with the Woodson State Bank. Horton came to
Wichita Falls in 1941. He died Monday. Survivors include his wife,

Mrs.J.H.Jenkins,93,was buried in the Woodson cemetery after services
at 3p.m.Saturday in the Melton Chapel of Memories.She died at 2:40p.m.
Thursday in Crestview Nursing Home in Throckmorton. Rev.Bob Thompson,
pastor of the First Baptist Church in Woodson,officiated. Mrs.Jenkins,
a resident of Woodson since 1958,was born IDA BLANCHE ARENDT on
January 5,1877 in Kansas. She married J.H.JENKINS in Albany in 1905.
He preceded her in death on May 9,1963. Mrs.Jenkins moved to Woodson
after having lived in Seymour for 24 years. She was raised in
Shackelford County,having been brought there by her parents from
Pennsylvania when only three years old. She continued to live in that
county for 54 years,and had a record of 35 years of teaching Sunday
School in Shackelford and Baylor Counties. She was a member of the
First Baptist Church. One daughter,Mrs.SAM HORTON of Woodson survives.
Mrs.C.H.ARENDT of Stephenville,a sister-in-law,P.G.AGNEW of Odessa,a
brother-in-law,two grandchildren and four great grandchildren,also

Robbie Mae Little Knoy was born Aug.17,1920 at Woodson,Texas to
BLANCHE and OLEN LITTLE. She was the fourth of six children. She was
preceded in death by PAULINE in infancy,in 1913,and JOHNE in 1964 and
both parents. On Oct.3,1942,she married WILLIE E.KNOY at Wheeler,Texas.
Robbie is survived by her husband;sons WILLIAM T.KNOY,Center Point and
RONNIE N.KNOY,Amarillo;sisters MOZELLE SMITH,Throckmorton and VANADA
LITTLE Woodson;one brother,BILL LITTLE,McCamey.Other family members
include three granddaughters and two grandsons,four nephews and three
nieces. Robbie worked in the Methodist Church since 1942.She became
an Eastern Star in 1938 and worked at all levels and up to State
offices. In 1976,she was State teacher of the year in New Mexico. She
served on the National Committee of Office Education Association for
two years.She was the first president of New Mexico Vocational
Teachers Association.She wrote the installation ceremony for State
office Education officers and worked with this group from its
inception until she retired in 1979. Robbie served on the State
Textbook selection committee for eight years.She worked with the Order
of Rainbow for Girls as a member of the advisory board for 26 years,
Mother Advisor for 8 years,Grand Cross of Colors degree,American
Legion Auxillary,Women's Society of Christian Service and was a member
of countless local,state and national professional organizations. She
taught school in Woodson,Lazbuddie,Levelland,Tuscola and for 26 years
at Hagerman,N.M. She also taught at Roswell High School,Eastern New
Mexico University and New Mexico Western. Robbie passed away Nov.17,
1985 at Throckmorton County Memorial Hospital after some ten weeks
during which she was bedfast.She continued to be cheerful and suffered

and a member of the Jeanette Street Church of Christ. Mrs.Latham is

LATHAM, T. J.
Funeral services for Thomas Joseph Latham,34,were held at 2p.m. Monday
with burial in Woodson Cemetery. Mr.Latham died at 5:15a.m.Sunday
following an apparent accidental shooting at his home Saturday evening.
Latham,accounting supervisor for Texas Electric Service Co. was
admitted to Stephens Memorial Hospital about 6:30p.m.Saturday. He had
been shot in the forehead. No official ruling in the death has been
made.Funeral services were held in Melton Chapel of Memories with Bill
Teague,minister of Williams Street Church of Christ and Houston Green
of Durango,Okla.,officiating. Mr.Latham,a graduate of Woodson High
School was born in Silverton,June 15,1937. He was an active Future
Farmer While in school. He married MARTHA REECE Aug.7,1959 in Woodson.
Before becoming associated with Texas Electric Service Co.,he was
employed by the First National Bank for 10 years. Mr.Latham was a
member of Williams Street Church of Christ,and was active in the
Little League baseball program,a director of the Breckenridge Bass
Club and worked with the local county 4-H clubs. Survivors are his
wife;a daughter,TANYA and a son KYLE;two sisters,Mrs.FRANK BLACKERBY
of Irving,and Mrs.EARL TATE of Paradise;six brothers,DONALD of
Breckenridge,KENNETH of Plano,CRUZ of Lake Jackson,ZANE of Arlington,
POWELL of Paradise and QUEIN of Woodson. He is also survived by his

burial were directed by Morehart Mortuary.Little was born June 24,1921,
in Warrington,Chesire,England to THOMAS DEMPSEY and ETHEL SILVERS
DEMPSEY. She grew up in Warrington and graduated from St.Mary's R.C.
Girls School. She attended Warrington Technical College and Hockin
Business School in England. She married CLARENCE WALKER in England in
July 1945 and moved to Woodson in 1946. He preceded her in death in
1974. Little married ALTON LITTLE in 1982,and he preceded her in death
in 1983.She also was preceded in death by her parents,two sisters,and
three brothers. She was a devoted mother,grandmother and
great-grandmother. She was employed by the Texas Department of Human
Resources for 20 years in the Albany and Breckenridge offices. She was
a member of the Woman's Forum and participated as a volunteer in the
Senior Citizens Income Tax Program. Little is survived by a daughter,
DEBORAH and husband JERRY GILBERT of Woodson,a grandson and
granddaughter-in-law,and one great-grandson,who is expecting a little
brother due to arrive in February;and one sister of Warrington.

direction of Melton Funeral Home in Breckenridge. She was born July 25,
1917 in Rotan and moved to Woodson in 1929 and attended school there.
She was FANNIE LORETTA LANCASTER before her marriage to ALTON CURTIS
(TONY) LITTLE Dec.28,1940. They had lived in Woodson all their married
life. She served in the Woman's Army Corps during World War II.
Survivors include her husband;one daughter Mrs.CRUZ LATHAM of
Arlington;one grandson,TODD LATHAM of Arlington;her step-mother,Mrs.
