SANDEL, Benjamin F.
Funeral services were conducted Friday in Melton Chapel of Memories 
for Benjamin F.Sandel,75 of Midland. R.L.Wall,minister of Vernon 
Church of Christ,officiated with interment in the Woodson Cemetery.The 
former Woodson resident died at 12:12a.m.Wednesday in Midland Memorial 
Hospital where he had been a patient for three weeks. Mr.Sandel was 
born Nov.22,1897 in Burnet County and married IDA LENORA HALLER in 
July,1919 at Woodson. She died in 1965. They lived most of their 
married life in Woodson,moving to Odessa in 1951. He retired in 1963 
and moved to Woodson in 1967. He had lived in Midland since May 1973. 
He was a member of the Church of Christ. Survivors are four daughters,
Mrs.J.M.HARRIS of Midland,Mrs.RUBY E.COME of Golden,Colo.,Mrs.H.C.
MCBRIDE of Woodson and Mrs.M.O.CLEMMONS of Big Spring;two sons,WAYNE 
of Farmington,N.M. and FRANK of Big Lake;five sisters,Mrs.OSCAR MOFFATT
of Leakey,Mrs.DELLA EBERT and Mrs.ROBERT TERRY,both of Uvalde,Mrs.
GEORGIA COLEMAN of San Antonio and Mrs.GILES MATHIEWS of Albuquerque,
N.M.;15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Grandsons will be
pallbearers.

Hospital. She was 81. Funeral services will be at 2p.m.today at First 
Christian Church of Woodson,with the Rev.Michael Patrick officiating.
Burial will follow in Woodson Cemetery,under the direction of 
Merriman-Archer Funeral Home. She was born May 28,1920,in Woodson. She 
was a lifetime resident of Woodson.She married BILL SANDERS Dec.9,1935 
in Eastland.She was a member of First Christian Church. Mrs.Sanders is 
survived by her husband,BILL SANDERS of Woodson;two sons,BILLY CARL 
SANDERS of Mineral Wells and VICTOR ALLEN(VICKIE)SANDERS of Hamby;
three daughters,CATHERINE(CATHY)FORREST of Weatherford,CAROL(BETSY)COX

Michael E.Schmitt,age 53,of Woodson,died Sunday,October 4,1992,at an 
Abilene hospital. Funeral service was at 11a.m.Tuesday,October 5,1992,
at the Woodson Church of Christ with Darrell Martin officiating.Burial 
was in the Woodson Cemetery, directed by Melton Funeral Home. He was 
born on July 5,1939 in Fort Worth,Texas. He was married to VICKI 
TIMMONS on March 17,1973 in Woodson. He moved to woodson in 1974 from 
Albany. He was a sales executive for KORQ Radio and a distributor for 
Nu-Skin International. He was a member of the Woodson Church of Christ 
and a US Navy Veteran. He was past president of Woodson Booster Club 
and past member of the Woodson School Board.He is survived by his wife,
VICKI SCHMITT of Woodson;two daughters,MELANIE RENE SCHMITT and 
MICHELLE AIMEE SCHMITT,both of Phoenix,Arizona;one son,JOSHUA TIMMONS 
SCHMITT of Woodson;his mother,L.D.SCHMITT of Hurst;two sisters,LOUSIE 
MCCLENDON of Hurst and LOIS RAFFERTY of Alvarado;one brother,ARTHUR JOE
SCHMITT of Port Aransas. He was preceded in death by one brother.

Born in Hunt County,Mrs.Shanks was a nurse's aide and domestic worker.

500 of Throckmorton. She was the widow of FORREST SHANKS. Survivors

1928 in Breckenridge. He married BETTY WALKER on Dec.4,1948 in 
Breckenridge. He moved to Woodson in May,1996,from Stanton. He was 
production foreman for Santa Fe Oil,retiring in 1994.He was a Baptist 
and a U.S.Army Veteran of World War II.Survivors include his wife,BETTY
SMART of Woodson;two daughters,VICKI SADLER and PATTI PATTILLO,both of
Woodson;two sisters,ANN WEATHERS of Breckenridge and BETH HASH of 
Albany;one brother,NEAL SMART of Kermit and two grandsons.He was

Ada Crousen Hughes Smith of Yuma,Arizona,formerly of Woodson,died 
December 16,1989 at La Mesa Care Center in Yuma. A memorial service is 
pending in Woodson. Private cremation was under the direction or Ryzek 
Mortuary. Born September 5,1897,in Joshua,Texas,she was the last of 
seven children of the W.H.CROUSEN family of Woodson. She lived in 
Woodson until 1935,when she moved to the Yuma area. She worked as a 
cook and waitress in Yuma and Winterhaven. She worked at McCallum 
Drugs and at Clymer's Boarding House in Yuma. After moving to the Los 
Angeles area in the 1940's,she worked as head salad chef at the world 
famous Coconut Grove in the Ambassador Hotel. She moved back to Yuma 
in 1980. Survivors include two daughters,CHLOE SCHUMACHER and SYBIL 
TOWNSEND,both of Yuma;one sister-in-law,Mrs.JOE(RUBY)CROUSEN of 
Breckenridge;four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. 
Donations can be made to the Yuma Center for the Visually impaired in 
care of the mortuary.

Home of Throckmorton.Charles"Chuck"was born Oct.9,1976 in Breckenridge 
to JAMES RANDALL STEPHENS and SUE BETT ALEXANDER.He attended school in 
Woodson and Moran,where he participated in track,football and 
basketball. He completed his high school years in Throckmorton,where 
he participated in football,basketball,cross country,track,FFA,FHA,and 
UIL. He was named FHA Beau for two years,regional qualifier in the 800 
meter run and mile relay,voted Most Athletic,Mr.THS,Most Handsome,and 
Most Valuable Player in track and cross country. He attended college 
at San Marcos and South Plains. At the time of his death,he worked for 
Nabors Drilling Company as a derrick hand. He loved fishing and 
camping on the river with his friends and still loved to play football 
and basketball. Chuck is survived by his mother,SUE BETT ALEXANDER of 
Moran;his father,RANDY STEPHENS of Tomball;two sisters,CHEYENNA TABOR 
of Moran and JAMIE of Gonzales,La.;his grandmothers,BETTY ALEXANDER of

Steve Stephens died Monday,Feb.11,2002,at the age of 26 years,eight 
months and two days,in an auto accident in New Mexico.Funeral services

Funeral Home of Throckmorton. Steve was born June 9,1975 in Ozona to 
SUE BETT ALEXANDER and JAMES RANDALL STEPHENS. He had lived with his 
father in Lubbock for a short time,then moved to Moran to live with 
his mother. While in Moran,he played football,basketball,tennis and 
ran track and was a member of FFA and FHA. He moved to Throckmorton,
where he attended Throckmorton High School. He received many honors in 
Throckmorton High School,including Co-MVP in basketball and track and 
was voted Outstanding Senior of the Year. At the time of his death,he 
was working for Nabors Drilling Company as floor manager. He loved 
fishing and camping on the river with his friends and still loved to 
play football and basketball. Steve is survived by his mother,SUE BETT

STUBBLEFIELD, Guy
Graveside funeral services with military rites for Guy Stubblefield,
Jr.,a 67 year old Breckenridge resident,were held on Sunday,March 21,
1993,at 2p.m. at Woodson Cemetery. Reverend Rex Boggs,pastor of 
Gunsight Baptist Church,officiated.Burial followed under the direction 
of Morehart Mortuary. Mr.Stubblefield died early Friday morning,March 
19,1993,at the Veterans Hospital in Temple. He was born May 8,1925 in 
Woodson. He attended schools in Woodson and graduated from Woodson 
High School in 1943. He served in the Air Force from 1943 to 1945. He 
was a tail gunner on B-17's for 13 missions.He was also a waist gunner 
on B-17's for 21 missions. His plane was shot down on March 30,1945 
over Brenam,Germany. He was in prison at Barth,Germany,at Stalag LUFT 
I. He attended North Texas Agricultural College in Arlington from 1947 
to 1948. He married RUTH TOMLIN in Fort Worth on May 1,1948. He worked 
for B.J.Oilfield and moved to Breckenridge in 1958 from Wichita Falls.
He also worked for Energy Supply for 10 years,retiring in 1984. He was 
a member of the American Legion,American Ex-Prisoners of War,and 381st 
Bombardment Group,Eighth Air Force.He was a Baptist. Survivors include 
his wife,RUTH STUBBLEFIELD of Breckenridge;four daughters,GUYLA WHITE 
of Gunsight,CONNIE MEASON of Dublin,DEBORAH WISE of Spring,and JANA 
PASCHE of Tomball;three sisters,ABBIE SANDERS and DENE BUFKIN,both of 
Woodson,and JEFFIE WOOD of Houston,and eight grandchildren. He was 
preceded in death by his parents. The family requests that memorials 
be made to Meals on Wheels.Memorials may be left at Morthart Mortuary.

CORNELIA WHITAKER April 9,1893 in Hamilton County,she moved to Woodson
in 1915. She married GUY STUBBLEFIELD on Jan.21,1919 in Woodson.He was 
a farmer and rural mail carrier. Mr.Stubblefield died Sept.20,1956. 
Mrs.Stubblefield was a member of the Woodson First Baptist Church. 
Survivors include three daughters,Mrs,BILL SANDERS,Woodson,Mrs.H.A.
BUFKIN,Fort Worth,and Mrs.BILL WOOD of Houston;one son,GUY of 
Breckenridge;two sisters,Mrs.T.W.MASSEY of Throckmorton,and Mrs.E.B.

JONES May 14,1919 in Woodson. They had lived in Woodson since their 
marriage. He farmed in Woodson area and had owned and operated a

Grace for Mrs.Bernice(Bee)Tubbs,57,who was found dead Saturday at 
11a.m.in front of her place of business,a tavern,about 18 miles north 
of Breckenridge on highway 183,by EMIL WEBB,a rancher,as he was 
driving by on his tractor. The Rev.Jimmie Thames,pastor of First 
United Presbyterian Church,officiated and burial was in Woodson 
Cemetery under the direction of Satterwhite Funeral Home. No official 
ruling has yet been made in the death according to Justice of the 
Peace,John Dodds. The body was taken to Abilene Saturday where an 
autopsy was performed. Survivors include a brother,NOBLE WARD of 
Baton Rouge,La.;and an aunt,Mrs.J.R.HARRISON of Midland. Mrs.Tubbs 
had owned and operated "TUBBS COUNTY LINE",a tavern for several years.
She was a Stephens County resident for 20 years. On Nov.2,1958,she 
married T.C.TUBBS. He died in 1968. Pallbearers were JACK ROBERTSON,

Home. Born May 6,1905,in Comanche County,he married GRACE HOOKER Aug.7,
1927 in Woodson. He moved to Woodson in 1913 from Comanche County 
where he lived most of his life. He was a farmer and a rancher and a 
member of the Church of Christ. Survivors include his wife of Woodson;
one daughter and son-in-law,LAVETA and ROYCE BEENE of Woodson;one 
sister,ESSIE HUGHES of Woodson;one brother,JIM TUGGLE of Dallas;
several nieces and nephews;two grandsons,ROYCE DALE BEENE of

Miller Tuttle,age 84,died Tuesday morning,March 22,2005,at Stephens
Memorial Hospital in Breckenridge.Funeral Services will be Friday,
March 25,2005 at 10:00a.m.at the First Baptist Church with Rev.Charles
West officiating and Rev.Cecil Harper assisting.Burial will follow in
the Woodson Cemetery under the direction of Morehart Mortuary.
Visitation was held Thursday evening,March 24 from 7 to 8p.m.at
Morehart Mortuary. MARSHALL MILLER TUTTLE was born November 18,1920,in
Throckmorton County to parents MARSHALL ALEX TUTTLE and OMA JEANETT
MILLER. He attended school at Masters and Woodson Communities.Miller
also served in the U.S.Navy. He was a certified pilot and pioneer in
the aerial spraying industry,as well as an auctioneer. On October 16,
1967,he was appointed as Stephens County Judge. Miller retired from
this office on December 31,1994,after 26 years and 10 1/2 months. He
was a Deacon of First Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday School
teacher and was a member of the Roughneck Bible Class. He was chairman
of the Cattlemen's Roundup for Crippled Children for 20 years,chairman
of the Junior Livestock Show Sale for 25 years,chairman of the
Goodfellows,and chairman of the Stephens County chapter of West Texas
Rehab. Miller was instrumental in forming the Breckenridge Senior
Citizens Center,as well as a leader in the Breckenridge Chamber of
Commerce. His many civic affiliations also included:Masonic Lodge,
Lions Club,Elks Lodge,American Legion,and The United Fund. Miller had
also been awarded Agriculture Citizens of the Year by the Breckenridge
Chamber of Commerce.Miller was preceded in death by his parents. Miller
is survived by his daughter,JUDY and husband,JIM CARAWAY of
Breckenridge;a son,RONNIE TUTTLE of Stephensville;two grandsons,RUSTY
CARAWAY of McKinney and KEITH CARAWAY of Kaysville,UT.;six 
great-granddaughters and two great-grandsons. Memorials may be made to

Funeral services for Peggy Tuttle,an 80 year old Breckenridge resident,
were held at 10a.m.Friday,March 8,at the Chapel at Morehart Mortuary.

Morehart Mortuary. Mrs.Tuttle died early Tuesday morning,March 5,2002 
at Stephens Memorial Hospital. Peggy Tuttle was born PEGGY NEAL WRIGHT 
on June 1,1921 to TOM and ELIZA WATSON WRIGHT in Peason,La. She 
graduated from Woodson High School in 1938 and became a beautician
working for Texie Greenley and Bea Loudder. She then opened Peggy's 
Beauty Shop and worked there for 20 years. She moved from Austin to 
Breckenridge in 1957. She was a member of the First Baptist Church,
Martha's Sunday School Class and was active at the Senior Citizens 
Center. Peggy Tuttle is survived by her daughter,JUDY and her husband 
JIM CARAWAY of Breckenridge;her son,RONNIE TUTTLE of Breckenridge;two 
grandsons;eight great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three brothers and five sisters. The

Sam J.Walker,82,a stock farmer and resident of the Lusk community for 
the past 33 years,died Friday afternoon at 5:30 o'clock at 
Breckenridge Clinic. Mr.Walker suffered a stroke at the home of his 
daughter,Mrs.BESSIE HARVEY of Lusk and was brought to the local 
hospital yesterday morning at 8 o:clock. He was a native Texan,born 
Nov.4,1865. Funeral services,Satterwhite directed,were held Saturday 
afternoon at 4 o'clock at Woodson.Howard Peacock of Graham officiating,
followed by burial in Woodson Cemetery. Six daughters and five sons 
survive. The daughters besides Mrs.HARVEY are;Mrs.A.M.CANUTESON and

Tuesday in a local nursing home. Graveside services will be at 2p.m.
Thursday in Woodson Cemetery,directed by Frank W.Wilson Funeral 
Directors. Mrs.Weatherby was born in Albany and was a homemaker. She 
moved to Odessa in 1988 from Breckenridge. She was a Methodist and was 
the widow of CHARLIE WEATHERBY,whom she married in 1925 in Albany. 
Other survivors include one son,DOYLE WEATHERBY of Odessa;four 
grandchildren;and eight great-grandchildren.

to FLOYD W. and ESTELL PITTMAN WHITFIELD. He married JANIS GRIFFIN in 
1969 in Fort Worth.He was the ranch foreman for the Dickie Ranch from 
1977 to 1991 when he retired. He was a member of the New Life Assembly 
of God Church of Throckmorton. He is preceded in death by his father,
FLOYD WHITFIELD in 1975 and a brother,WESLEY in 1994. Survivors

hospital and a Throckmorton nursing home and was a private nurse. She

Funeral services for Lou Ella Whitaker,an 86 year old former 
Throckmorton resident were held on Friday,November 13,1992,at 10a.m.
at First Baptist Church in Throckmorton,with Reverend Cliff Lester,
pastor,officiating. Burial followed in Woodson Cemetery under the 
direction of Morehart Mortuary. Mrs.Whitaker died Thursday morning,
November 12,1992 in a Lubbock hospital.She was born LOU ELLA ATKINSON 
on September 3,1906,in Comanche County. She moved to Throckmorton 
County at the age of 2.She attended schools in Woodson. She married 
NATHAN WHITAKER in Throckmorton on December 23,1925. He preceded her 
in death on February 16,1985. She was a housewife and a member of 
First Baptist Church in Throckmorton. She moved to Lubbock in 1986
from Throckmorton. Survivors include one son,BUCK WHITAKER of Lubbock;
one daughter,DORIS CRAWFORD of Corpus Christi;six grandchildren,eight 
great-grandchidren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded 
in death by her parents,three brothers,and one grandchild. The family 
requests that memorials be made to West Texas Rehabilitation Center.

lived in Woodson all their married lives. She had been supervisor of 
the cafeteria for Woodson public schools since 1962. She was a member

admitted Saturday.Born Sept.7,1908 in Cleburne,he came to Throckmorton 
County in 1914 from Cleburne. He married MAGGIE LENA BROWN,Jan.20,1929 
at Woodson. He was a farmer and carpenter. As a member of the Central 
Church of Christ of Woodson,he was the carpenter who built the church.

WOODWARD, Alvis M.
Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday at 2p.m. at the Central 
Church of Christ in Woodson for Alvis M.Woodward,55. G.B.Stanley,a 
Church of Christ minister in San Antonio and Elton Dennis,minister of 
the Amarillo Church of Christ,will officiate at the services. Burial 
will be at the Woodson cemetery under the direction of Melton Funeral 
Home. Mr.Woodward died Thursday morning at 6:31a.m.at the Stephens 
Memorial Hospital. He was admitted to the hospital on February 15. Mr.
Woodward was born April 23,1916 in Albany. He had lived in Woodson 
most of his life. He made his childhood home with the late JOHN X.CAMP 
and his wife,Mrs.MARY J.CAMP of Breckenridge. He married RUBY DENNIS 
May 15,1941 in Newcastle. He had been the foreman of the G.D.Dickie Sr.
ranch,was a member of the Central Church of Christ,a veteran of World 
War II,a member of the Woodson Masonic Lodge No.964 and was the 
president of the Woodson School Board. Survivors include his wife,one 
daughter,Mrs.DEAN FORD of Denton;four sons,WARREN of Wichita Falls,
RICKEY of Lubbock,DENNIS and DEWEY of the home;one brother,ALVIN 
WOODWARD of Woodson;one stepsister,MAE KINZER of Houston and two 
grandchildren.

WOODWARD, Ruby Angeline Dennis
Ruby Angeline Dennis Woodward,82,a former Woodson resident,died 
Saturday,January 23,1999 at her Goddard,Kansas residence.Funeral 
services were held Tuesday at 2p.m.at the Woodson Church of Christ 
with Danny Lee officiating. Burial was in the Woodson Cemetery 
directed by Melton Funeral Home. Mrs.Woodward was born on September 11,
1916 in Orange County. She married ALVIS WOODWARD on May 25,1942 in 
Crystal Falls. He preceded her in death on February 17,1972. She moved 
to the Lubbock-Amarillo area in 1975 and then to Goddard,Kansas in 
1987. She was a member of the Woodson Church of Christ. She was a 
homemaker and a seamstress for Davis Manufacturing. She had worked as 
a cook for Texas Tech. She attended Johnson Bible College,Beauty 
College and Business College. She is survived by one daughter and 
son-in-law,SHIRLEY and DEAN FORD of Goddard,Kansas;four sons and three 
daughters-in-law,WARREN and CAROLE WOODWARD of Wichita Falls,RICHARD 
WOODWARD of Haltom City,DENNIS and CINDY WOODWARD of Wichita,Kansas 
and DEWEY and CRISANN WOODWARD of Breckenridge;one sister,CLOY MARIE 
WILLIAMS of Franklin;one brother,E.L.DENNIS of Amarillo;grandchildren,
MICHELL POSPISIL and GRAIG,AMANDA FORD,TRAVIS FORD,TERRI WOODWARD,
TRAMPUS WOODWARD,JASON WOODWARD,JAROD WOODWARD,BRIAN and JULIE SANFORD,
LYNETTE and CARL GARNER;great-grandchildren,LOGAN GARNER,CHLOE

Ima Jewel Wyly,67,of Breckenridge,and a former Woodson resident,died 
Friday,March 17,1995,in Stephens Memorial Hospital in Breckenridge. 
Graveside services were held Tuesday,March 21,at 4p.m. in the Woodson 
Cemetery. Rev.Bill Dawson,pastor of the Church of God,will officiate 
and burial will follow under the direction of the 
McMillian-Satterwhite Funeral Home of Graham. The former IMA JEWEL 
YOUNG,she married KY EUGENE WYLY on October 7,1956 in Breckenridge. 
Following their marriage they lived in Breckenridge and Woodson.She 
was a housewife and a member of the Church of God. She was preceded in 
death by her husband on December 14,1994.Survivors include one 
brother-in-law,L.B.WYLY of Lubbock,Texas.

WYLY, Ky Eugene
Ky Eugene Wyly of Breckenridge,died Wednesday,Dec.14,1994 in an 
Abilene hospital.Graveside services was at 11a.m.Tuesday,Dec.20,at the 
Woodson Cemetery in Woodson,Texas with McMillian-Satterwhite Funeral 
Home in Graham in charge of arrangements.He was born April 7,1931 in 
Lusk,Texas and was a longtime resident of Woodson. He married IMA 
JEWEL YOUNG on October 7,1956 in Breckenridge. He worked at a gasoline 
plant in Eliasville,Texas and drove a cab in Breckenridge for many 
years. Survivors include his wife,IMA JEWEL WYLY of Breckenridge;one 
brother,L.B.WYLY of Lubbock;and one half-sister,RITA ANGELL of Bristow,
Oklahoma.

L.B.Wyly,75,Woodson farmer,died at 1:45a.m.Saturday in Stephens 
Memorial Hospital in Breckenridge where he had been a patient since 
Feb.22.Services were held Monday in the Woodson Methodist Church. The 
Rev.James Merrell,pastor,officiated. Burial was in Woodson Cemetery. 
He was born June 29,1897 in Hamilton County and married the former 
MARY ALLISON,June 10,1929 at Lusk.They lived most of their married 
life near Woodson,where they farmed. Survivors are his wife;two sons,
EUGENE of Lubbock and L.B.Jr.,of Baytown;a daughter,Mrs.Reta Angell;
six sisters,Mrs.JEWELL MYERS of Tecumseh,Oklahoma,Mrs.ETHEL THOMPSON 
of Winterhaven,California,Mrs.RUBY PHILLIPS of Reno,Nev.,Mrs.ZONA 
MORGAN and Mrs.PEARL RIDDLE,both of El Cajon,Calif.,and Mrs.BERTHA 
SMITH of Yuma,Ariz.;two brothers,ERNEST and BEN,both of San Diego,
Calif.;and two grandchildren. Pallbearers were OTIS HIBBITS,DON

WYLY, Mary Elizabeth
Mary Elizabeth Wyly,87,died Tuesday in a Lubbock hospital.Graveside 
services will be at 2p.m.Thursday at the Woodson Cemetery,with the Rev.
Douglas Tucker officiating,directed by McMillian-Satterwhite Funeral 
Home of Graham. Mrs.Wyly was born in Baylor County and had lived most 
of her life in Woodson. She was a homemaker,a Methodist and was the 
widow of LEONARD B.WYLY. Survivors include two sons,L.B.WYLY of 
Lubbock and KY EUGENE WYLY of Olney;a sister NINA BUTCHER of Tulsa,
Okla.;and two grandchildren. Memorial may be made to the American 
Kidney Foundation.
