Born in Cobb Co., Ga., the son of Moses James Petty (1775-1832) and Jane/Jannie Gaskall (1795-1900).  On 31 Dec 1852 in Cobb Co. he married Sarah Ann Wade (1834-1856).  They had two children in Georgia, Mary E. Petty (1853-1871) and Moses J. Petty (1855-1899)..  After his move to Texas to join his brothers in Upshur County in the 1850's he married a neighbor, Martha A. Hurt on 27 Jan 1858  (1838-1873).  They had four additional children, William H. T. Petty (1859 – 1935 who owned a store in Rosewood), Nancy Jane Petty (1862 – ), Martha E. Petty (1866 – 1912), and Harriet Petty (1870 – 1877). During the Civil War he was in Company G, 17th Texas Cavalry, Moore's Regiment  of the Confederate Army and fought on 12 May 1863 at Raymond, MS.,  19 Sep 1863 at Chickamauga, GA., on 24 Nov 1863 at the Battle of Lookout Mountain Tennessee, on 22 Jul 1864 in the defense of Atlanta, GA., on 29 Nov 1864 at Spring Hill, TN., on 30 Nov 1864 at Franklin, TN., on 16 Dec 1864 in the Battle of Nashville, Tennessee.  Following Martha's death he married Jensey Elizabeth McGuffin (1838 – 1916) who drew his Confederate pension following his death.

C., the son of Moses James Petty (1775-1832) and Jane/Jannie Gaskall (1795-1900).   In 1840 in Cobb Co., Ga., he married Susan Bearden (1825-1912) and their children were Sarah Jane Petty (1842 – 1915), George A. Petty (1846 – 1868), Mary Emma Petty (1848 – 1908), Abraham Petty (1850 – 1871), Georgia Ann Petty (1851 – 1933), William H. Petty (1855 – 1912), Josephine P. Petty (1855 – 1934), James M.Petty (1857 – 1873), Eugenia Petty (1859 – 1877), Warren Augusta Petty (1861 – 1927) and an infant son who was born and died in 1863.   He moved to Upshur County between 1851 and 1853 and was one of the original settlers of the Enon, Texas area.  In Aug 1853 he joined the Enon Baptist Church by transfer of letter. By 1854 the Upshur Co. school census showed James' family.  In 1861 "Sam" as he was known by, joined the Confederate Army in Company K, 19th Texas Infantry in Quitman.  On 17th Mar 1862 he joined Co. B, 26th Cavalry in which his brother Thomas M. Petty was also a Private.  He suffered wounds during battle and during a furlough died from those wounds.  Submitted by Ronald E Wade

Petty, Jane or Janie Gaskall 1795 Unk Per Ronald Wade - Unmarked - Married about 1809 in Union Co., S.C. to Moses James Petty (1775-1832), their children were James Willis "Sam" Petty (1810 – 1864), Thomas M. Petty (1817 – 1871), and Henry Petty (1832 – 1911). They won land in the Georgia Gold Lottery of 1821 in Dooly Co. but were again shown living in Union, S.C. in the 1830 U.S. Census but again in Georgia when her husband died in 1832. She moved with her sons to Upshur County in the 1850's and it is uncertain when she died.

Petty, Marion 1891 1959 Per Ronald Wade - Marion Lee Petty, son of John William Petty (1865-1935) and Lula Lee Carpenter (1870-1933), married 13 Jul 1913 to Onnie Jewel Chandler (1896-1920) and following her death married 27 Aug 1921 in Enon, Upshur Co. to Lillian Lenora Lansdale (1899-1981).  They were parents of eight children.
Petty, Mary Ann Bearden 1824 Aft 1870 Per Ronald Wade - Unmarked - Born the daughter of John H. Bearden (1799-1927) and Sarah Bond Bearden (1803-1870), she married Thomas M. Petty (1817-1871) about 1845 in Georgia. They had moved to Upshur Co., Texas by 1860 per census records and settled in the Enon area of Upshur County. She and Tom's children were Sarah Camilla Petty (1846 – 1931), John B. Petty (1846 – ), Moses Petty (1847 – ), James Monroe Petty (1849 – 1886), Susan Petty (1850 – ), Claude Petty (1861 – ), Amy Emma Petty (1863 – ), and Alice B. Petty (1865 – 1943). They lived in 1870 in the Coffeeville Community of Upshur Co. but had returned to Enon to live and her husband Tom, and children 8 year old Amy Emma, and 15 year old-John B., were baptized on 25 Oct 1871 in the Enon Baptist Church per church official minutes. Their home was near that of his brother, James Willis "Sam" Petty (1810-1864) who was married to Mary Ann's siter, Susan Bearden Petty (1825-1912). Another younger brother, Henry Petty (1832-1911) lived nearby as did the Bearden's mother, Sarah "Sally" Bond Bruce, who had made the trip with the family from Georgia.

Petty, Susan 9-2-1825 6-21-1912 W/o James - Per Ronald Wade - Photo - Born in Marietta, Georgia the daughter of John H. Bearden (1799-1927) and Sarah Bond Bearden (1803-1870). She married James Willis "Sam" Petty (1810-1864) in 1840 in Randalls, Cobb Co., Georgia. They had moved to Upshur Co., Texas in the 1850's and settled in the Enon area of Upshur County accompanied by her mother Sarah Bond Bearden Bruce and her sister Mary Bearden Petty who was married to her husband's brother, Thomas M. Petty. Tom and Sam's younger brother Henry also made the move. She became well known in Upshur County as "Aunt Susan" and hers and Sam's children were Sarah Jane Petty (1842 – 1915), George A. Petty (1846 – 1868), Mary Emma Petty (1848 – 1908), Abraham Petty (1850 – 1871), Georgia Ann Petty (1851 – 1933), William H. Petty (1855 – 1912), Josephine P. Petty (1855 – 1934), James M.Petty (1857 – 1873), Eugenia Petty (1859 – 1877), Warren Augusta Petty (1861 – 1927) and an infant son who was born and died in 1863. Susan's husband was a Confederate soldier during the Civil War, wounded during a the war and came home as a result on furlough and died as a result. A book by her son, Lessons from Grandma, was discovered in typescript and re-written and published by Ronald Ellis Wade in hardback and softback and is available at http://www.blurb.com/bookstore/detail/311995 . It tells of her life and in particular as a widow struggling after the war to keep her farm and family.

Petty (1863 – 1912), John William Petty (1865 – 1935), and Martha Francis Petty (1867 – 1941).
Petty, Thomas M 1817 1871 Per Ronald Wade - Unmarked - Born the son of Moses James Petty (1775-1832) and Jane/Jannie Gaskall (1795-1900). Married Mary Ann Bearden about 1845 in Cobb Co., Ga. (the sister of Susan Bearden Petty, the wife of his brother James Willis "Sam" Petty). Their children were Sarah Camilla Petty (1846 – 1931), John B. Petty (1846 – ), Moses Petty (1847 – ), James Monroe Petty (1849 – 1886), Susan Petty (1850 – ), Claude Petty (1861 – ), Amy Emma Petty (1863 – ), and Alice B. Petty (1865 – 1943). They moved from Coxes, Cobb Co., Ga. to Upshur Co. in the early 1850's During the Civil war he joined Co. B, 26th Cavalry of the Confederate Army in which his brother James Willis "Sam" Petty was also a Private. His younger brother, Henry Petty of Upshur Co. served in another unit out of Upshur Co. On the 25 Oct 1871 he was baptized in the Enon Baptist Church along with four other members of his family. He may have anticipated his death as the Enon Baptist Church minutes record his death after 1871..

Porter born about 1906 Upshur Co., Tx.,  James Ennis Porter (1910 – 1942) and a daughter Gandie D. Porter born about 1915.  Connie Amanda Lee Rash Porter after James's death re-married to Rashie Elmon Wilson (1978-1940).
